When you think of Disney•Pixar’s Cars, “realism” probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind – anthropmorphic, living vehicles, and all. That’s just what’s so slightly jarring, yet intriguing about the first teaser for Cars 3, the long-awaited next chapter in the saga, hitting theaters in the U.S. on June 16, 2017. Much like the uncharted waters that we as a country are about to tread, there is a feeling of uncertainly and unease with this – a massive change from the world we’re familiar with… even in Radiator Springs.
Seeing Lightning McQueen fly through the air post-crash brings to mind movies like Days of Thunder, a story about a racer forced to bounce back after suffering horrific injuries to get back on the track… or even that old episode of Knight Rider in which KITT was destroyed and became frightened to make the Turbo Boost jumps that he’d become famous for.
No matter what the circumstance, we’ll be there when Cars 3 opens. As a matter of fact, Cars is likely what made both of The Rock Daughters™ so interested in cars and racing in general… and I’ve been known to rock a Cars Land racing jacket on a regular basis.
