While he’ll soon be stepping into a galaxy far, far away as he prepares to take over the role of Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming Han Solo STAR WARS Story, Donald Glover is currently in full-on music mode as Childish Gambino. Today comes a preview of his Music x Technology collaboration with Microsoft and Wolf + Rothstein – PHAROS, a virtual reality experience, which will be available in early 2017 following the vinyl release of his new album, Awaken, My Love (the record is already out on CD/Digital). A PHAROS VR performance of “Me and Your Mama” has been issued on YouTube, and is best enjoyed with the companion app (available for iOS and Android)
While I haven’t really been able to get fully on-board with the VR craze thus far, seeing what’s been done here to capture a live performance and bring it to fans at home has my wheels turning. After all, I have been known to direct a bit, from time to time.
