On their new three-track EP, OUTLAWS AND PRODIGALS, Calgary rockers KIROS deliver an extremely short, 11-minute slice of melodic rock worth giving a shot. Containing the title track in both standard and acoustic versions to bookend the release with Desperation Calls in the middle, the band makes a quick display of quality songwriting.
Outlaws and Prodigals builds upon its somewhat 90’s alternative bent by adding a string section to complement the arrangement, while Desperation Calls is more of a straight-forward rocker.
Having missed the band’s earlier works, their first release on ANGR (Ain’t No Grave Records) is my first exposure to the world of KIROS, and has certainly opened the door of interest for their 2012 full-length LAY YOUR WEAPONS DOWN. Unfortunately, there’s just not much else I can say about only two songs and an alternate cut.
