Bubbly and bright, MELISSA GREEN delivers an uplifting dozen-song set on her new album, SING LOUD!

A family-friendly pop-rock collection infused with elements of country, doo-wop, and even rap, Green’s stylistic cornucopia quickly commanded dancing from my toddler, marking an instantaneous “win” for the songstress’ fourth studio set.

Melissa GreenWhile I personally don’t care much for the doo-wop-flavored album opener, “Baby I Love You,” (cheesy) the album quickly rights itself with the slickly-produced title track and beyond. “Get Up” features an unexpected spin on the chorus from EMINEM’s 8-Mile hit “Lose Yourself,” creating a kids anthem ripe for sing-along time. In another unique twist, Actress/Performer/Mom BROOKE SHIELDS pops up in her kindie-rock debut for some vocal duties on “4 Nickels and a Dime” and a cover of THE GO-GO’s “We Got the Beat.” Appropriately, the album winds down to a close with the mellow goodnight song, “Will I Dream in Colors?”

In a lot of ways, Melissa Green reminds me of the type of guitar-slinging coffee house rockers I used to run across during my band days back in the 90s, and that’s not a bad thing. A little bit of familiarity mixed in with the freshness and wrapped up in a package perfect for rockin’ with the whole family.
