I’m a sucker for a good cover song, and that’s something that I’ve noted often over the years. In a way, I guess you could say that I’m a ‘collector’ of covers, with countless compilations devoted to artists putting their personal stamp on another artist’s work residing on the shelves and in the files of my personal archives. This week there’s a new piece available in the form of A LITTLE LOVE, a 10-song collection of acoustic re-imaginings from RENEE & JEREMY. While the duo is known for their kid-friendly works, A LITTLE LOVE is really an album for both kids and grownups alike.
Leading off with the John Stewart-penned MONKEES hit “Daydream Believer,” the stage is set for the next 25 minutes of laid-back tunes. While the song was not recorded as, nor intended to be a tribute to the recent death of Davy Jones, it did inspire the uploading of the following video:

Personally, my favorite tracks in addition to ‘Believer are versions of songs whose original versions I’d purchased in the 90’s: R.E.M.’s “Shiny Happy People” and the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS’ “Give it Away.” The R&J rendition of the COLDPLAY hit “Yellow” has already spawned an animated video by Jon Izen, and I have a feeling that more will soon follow.
My wife has yet to hear this album in it’s entirety, but I’m sure she’ll appreciate the inclusion of SIMON & GARFUNKEL’s “59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy).”

Bottom Line: A LITTLE LOVE is a fun little record to share with the little people (or the big ones) that you love.
