SEGA and NINTENDO form a SONIC Alliance…

Thirty years ago, the thought of SEGA and NINTENDO teaming up for a strategic partnership would’ve been like pitching an alliance between TARGET and WALMART: Absolutely ridiculous. Yet, here we are in 2013 and a lot has changed in the video gaming world… and now the former rivals that once battled for 8-bit supremacy with the NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM and SEGA MASTER SYSTEM are working together for the future of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG. While Sonic first appeared on a Nintendo platform just over a decade ago, the character is becoming Nintendo Exclusive… at least for the next three games.

“Sonic the Hedgehog has proven incredibly successful on Nintendo platforms and we are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with Nintendo. As we initiate this new exclusive partnership with the next three titles we believe that Wii U™ and Nintendo 3DS™ are ideal platforms to showcase the evolution of the Sonic brand.”John Cheng, President and COO, SEGA of America.

Details on the next three SONIC THE HEDGEHOG titles are promised to arrive in the weeks ahead.
