THE MUPPETS used to be real tough guys…

This article is more than 12 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

THE MUPPETS are on the verge of hitting theater screens after a long absence, and if you’ve been keeping your eyes on the small screen, then you’ve already noticed Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang popping up for product tie-ins. THE MUPPETS have a long history of doing commercials, one that pre-dates Sesame Street and The Muppet Show by many years. While the folks over at Muppet Wiki have a shockingly extensive list of commercials that THE MUPPETS have been involved with, this one is a personal favorite, so I’m sharing it here on The Rock Father™.

Back in 1966, IDEAL TOYS manufactured the very first “professional style action puppets” based on Kermit the Frog and Rowlf the Dog. Along with a Snerf puppet (possibly never produced), they sang a sales pitch more akin to a low-level wiseguy than something that a Muppet should be saying. Would Kermit really break your arms and legs? Watch below.

Disney will release THE MUPPETS on November 23, 2011.
