Earlier this month, I shared a preview of BARBIE IN PRINCESS POWER, the 30th animated film to feature Barbie and her friends. For the first time in Mattel’s 56-year history, Barbie is donning the cape and mask to become a real superhero (unlike the times she’s dressed-up as licensed characters), and at the world’s largest Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Barbie appeared as a live-action, high-flying character to launch the toy line associated with the coming film, and it’s digital empowerment mission, Be Super. Check out some video from the launch…

“The world of superheroes has historically been tailored to boys where ‘the good guys beat the bad guys. But we know that girls, too, enjoy empowered heroes but seek an outcome where the perceived bad characters transform to good and friendship is the lasting result. We thought it was time they were inspired by a new superhero that is playful, has extraordinary abilities and also uses her powers of forgiveness and friendship to defeat her foe – in a way that only Barbie can.”Lori Pantel, Vice President, Global Brand Marketing for Barbie

BARBIE in PRINCESS POWER hits Blu-ray and DVD on March 3, and the toys are in-stores right now.

As I’ve noted previously, while PRINCESS POWER could be a big deal, word on the street is that the next BARBIE in ROCK’N ROYALS will be coming out this Fall, and that the teaser will be on PRINCESS POWER. Longtime readers might recall that I bought the girls a vintage (but still sealed) BARBIE AND THE ROCKERS “Hot Rockin’ Stage” for Christmas of 2013… something that was featured here. This year might get expensive.
