Did you think that the new trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS was the only great thing you’d see today? Oh no, friends, this day just keeps giving – and it’s given me the return of my childhood heroes – not only Han and Chewie, but Michael Knight as well. That’s right, DAVID HASSELHOFF has a new single out today, and it’s pure 80s goodness as part of the release campaign for KUNG FURY – the fantastic-looking Kickstarter hit that raised a ridiculous amount of money to craft what might be the greatest 1980s action film not crafted in the 80s. It wasn’t long ago that I showed my wife the initial KUNG FURY trailer and declared it to be a cinematic masterpiece. This makes me want to break out NIGHT ROCKER, the album that David released at the height of KNIGHT RIDER‘s popularity back in 1985…
From the official announcement:
Kung Fury is the brain child of David Sandberg, who left his job in pursuit of producing the best 80’s style action movie of all time. The stylistic trailer reached over 8.5 million views and its retro touch connected with over 18,000 Kickstarters, raising $630,000 while surpassing their goal several times over and making Kung Fury the second biggest Kickstarter film of all time outside of the U.S. Once a dream of David’s, Kung Fury is now moving fast towards completion and becoming a reality.
Releasing the song and accompanying video now is a nod of gratitude towards the crowd-funding community that had invested in Kung Fury, giving them a small token of appreciation while the 30 minute short film goes through its final production stages. With David Hasselhoff lending his unmistakable vocals to “True Survivor,” Kung Fury is giving the 80’s style film fans a reason to celebrate while introducing a classic style of action-film to a new generation of film lovers.
The Kung Fury original soundtrack is scheduled for release on May 28th, same day as the movie Kung Fury premieres on YouTube.
