I originally planned on posting this on August 15. I wish I would've, but more time-sensitive things got in the way over the course of the past two weeks. Most of this has been written, sitting as an unpublished draft awaiting release to the public for the purpose of standing up for what's right. For standing up for the power and glory of all-things pumpkin spice!

You see, it's that time again. As the kids are back-to-school, your favorite (and not-so-favorite) retailers are gearing up for the holidays. In fact, it seems that there's more holidays than ever these days (every day is a "National _____ Day" of some kind), but as we look toward the end of the year, it's the "Big Two" that always loom large: Christmas and Halloween. In many cases, "Christmas in July" is more than a simple advertising promotion, and chains like Hobby Lobby are locked, stocked and ready to rock with the festive gear as early as June. As we hit August, familiar shades of orange and black start popping up with increasing frequency as Back-to-School departments are flipped in preparation for the most glorious day of the year, October 31. And, just as signs of the holidays begin to appear, it's time once again for chronic complainers to start whining about what they deem "too early" (online it's usually done with excessive CAPS and !!!), and likewise many media outlets to start running what's basically a stock article at this point about "Christmas Creep" and the like. Newsflash: none of this is new, and the true problem lies in the complainers and their ridiculous "outrage."

When it comes to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, the one I know best is the one from 1992. In fact, despite my own writing once being compared to that of Buffy's creator, Joss Whedon (and in the official BUFFY magazine, no less), I never watched the tv series, but I'd seen the movie. With Kristy Swanson forever being the Buffy for me, it's cool to see that just in-time for Halloween, the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER 25th Anniversary Edition is coming to DVD and Blu-ray, with the film hitting Digital HD for the very first time. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment sent over the specs this morning...

UPDATED: Submissions for Holiday Wish Guide & 31 Days of Halloween are now CLOSED.

It's August as of this writing - the heart of Back-to-School season, but here at Rock Father™ HQ sights are currently set on Halloween and Christmas... or, the "Holiday Season" in general. Truth be told, behind-the-scenes at THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine, things run months in advance, much like the editorial calendar of print mags. I've actually been working on holiday content for months, and now comes the traditional open call for submissions. Opportunities for 31 Days of Halloween, Holiday Wish Guide™ and the Rock Father™ Santa Holiday Giving Program are now available.

The Rock Father is a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam...

1984 is a year that I remember well. The Ghostbusters and Gremlins became a huge deal, Michael Jackson's Thriller was still fresh in our minds, and occasional trips to Aladdin's Castle were a serious treat. Now comes the first trailer for the Netflix Original Series Stranger Things 2 - and it captures 1984 just as I remember it. While the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab, Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived. Darkness falls across the land, with Stranger Things 2 arriving just in-time for Halloween...

Last month at New York Toy Fair, countless toymakers rolled-out a preview of what's in-store for the rest of 2017 and beyond. Among the toys that we're most interested in here at Rock Father HQ are those in the new Vampirina collection by Just Play. On the surface, the ingredients for success are there in that it's the latest Disney Junior series from Doc McStuffins creator, Chris Nee, based on the hit Vampirina Ballerina books by Anne Marie Pace. For Disney, the characters have been updated with a look more in-line with what preschoolers and elementary-aged kids have come to expect. While I think that my girls are gonna be all over this, I see so much potential -- this coming from a guy that's Halloween-obsessed, and has written stories about supernatural beings a time (or two) in the past. With a storyline following an immigrant family (of vampires, no less) that has moved from Transylvania to Pennsylvania, there's some topical issues at hand (new kid in town, dealing with differences, etc.), but on the toy front, what's coming is just so cool...
