Life of Agony bassist Alan Robert has been rocking the comics world over the past few years, working as the horror illustrator & writer behind several award-winning titles through IDW Publishing (Crawl to Me, Killogy, Wire Hangers, The Shunned One). His breakout title, however, was actually a grownup coloring book - 2016's The Beauty of Horror: A GOREgeous Coloring Book. The crew over at Nerdist hailed it as being "The World's Creepiest Adult Coloring Book" and it was IDW's #2 top-selling book last year. Now, Alan is back for seconds, giving his book what all great horror tales command... a sequel. For Halloween 2017, The Beauty of Horror 2: Ghouliana's Creepatorium - Another GOREgeous Coloring Book has hit the streets, and today it takes its place in our annual 31 Days of Halloween Countdown. Despite being quite a fan of horror and the supernatural, I'm not well-versed in the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Of course, I am familiar with the mighty Cthulhu, who first landed on my radar not by his legend, but via Metallica. Indeed, it was Metallica's instrumental "Call of Ktulu" from 1984's Ride the Lightning that was my first exposure to this mythical beast, and some three+ decades later it seems that Cthulhu's fame is greater than ever as the tentacled one has risen to become a household name. With that in mind, The Rock Father™ and Entertainment Earth are giving readers a chance to win a new Funko Dorbz CTHULHU figure! As part of 31 Days of Halloween 2017, you could own this 3" version of Lovecraft's Great Old One, but which one will you get? Could it be the standard version, or the highly-limited Glow-in-the-Dark "Chase" version? The Master of R'Lyeh awaits!
I don't know if there's ever been a definitive study to determine why rockabilly surf punk fits so well with monsters and ghouls, but it most certainly does. Perhaps the most famous example is Jack Marshall's "Munsters Theme," but here we are fifty years later and the jams just keep on coming - and the vibe has gone far beyond the beach, with guitarslingers around the globe breaking out those twangy riffs atop bouncing beats and low-end grooves. On Friday the 13th of October, 2017, Russian rockers MESSER CHUPS will release their latest album, Taste the Blood of Guitaracula - a mostly-instrumental collection of 16 songs perfect for the Halloween season. Ahead of its release, here's a look at the official video for "Midnight Call," along with "Chupacabra vs. Batman." Crank it up!
From Scholastic and author Laura Terry comes GRAVEYARD SHAKES, a new graphic novel that's hit bookshelves just in-time for Halloween! Light and spooky with a style that should play well for fans of Raina Telgemeier and Neil Gaiman, Graveyard Shakes makes an appearance here in 31 Days of Halloween with a special 6-page preview below. Check it out!
Here's Johnny! Stanley Kubrick's THE SHINING first hit theaters back in 1980, an iconic horror film that's also divisive based upon how accurately (or inaccurately) it served as an adaptation of Stephen King's 1977 novel. Nearly 40 years later, audiences still love it, and the film is a Halloween-season staple, which is why The Rock Father™ and Entertainment Earth are giving readers a chance to win a new Funko Dorbz THE SHINING Jack Torrance figure! As part of 31 Days of Halloween 2017, you could own this 3" version of Jack Torrance - but which one will you get? Could it be the standard Jack, or the frozen "Chase" version?
Whenever I visit Disneyland or Walt Disney World, a visit to The Haunted Mansion is an absolute must. I love the place, though The Rock Daughters got a little freaked out when we took them to Disney World last year (they haven't paid a visit to California just yet). That said, it's pretty cool that The Haunted Mansion has made its way to Disney XD this month, hitting the airwaves for a series of entertaining stop-motion animated on-air promos that find Disney characters from "DuckTales," "Big Hero 6 The Series" and "Star vs. The Forces of Evil" on their own adventure hosted by Haunted Mansion ghosts. The promos, a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and Disney XD are airing now through Halloween, with more to be found online.
