The home stretch of the 2016 holiday season is upon us, and while there's been a solid collection of new release seasonal music released this year, we're not quite done yet. A late entry into the field comes from American Hi-Fi, who has served-up a punk-rock cover of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" featuring MxPx frontman Mike Herrera. Check it out...

I wasn't expecting my favorite new holiday song of 2016 to come from LACUNA COIL, but that just changed with the surprise release of "Naughty Christmas," a digital single (Amazon | iTunes) released by Century Media this morning. It's a cautionary tale about why kids should want to be good, with Santa delivering presents for those with good behavior, and Krampus coming for the naughty ones. My wife and I have a differing opinion on Krampus (she gets very annoyed at his mere mention - leading me to believe he may have come for her as a child), but I get excited. Perhaps it's my German roots, but I think that more children should know and respect the Krampus. Crank this one up!

Holiday Music: Amazon Launches "Acoustic Christmas"

Written by

'Tis the season for new Holiday Music, and as I continue to maintain what I always hope will be one of the most comprehensive lists of 2016 New Release and Reissue Holiday Music and Movies, this year there's some playlists in the mix. Amazon just sent over news that they've launched Acoustic Christmas, an Amazon Music Original playlist featuring twenty nine original and classic holiday recordings from a wide range of artists like Train, Zella Day, Us the Duo, Sara Watkins, as well as Billy Bragg and Joe Henry. The new collection is available exclusively for streaming on Amazon Music—both Amazon Music Unlimited and Prime Music.

During my "big box retail" phase of the mid-late 90s, there were a few of us who would, on occasion, replace a certain baby in one of our display Nativity sets with Yoda. His size was just about right to replace the manger and all, and surprisingly, I don't think there were ever any complaints - it was like an "Easter Egg" hidden within the seasonal department. Fast forward two decades and much has changed, but the Nativity has remained largely untouched - though someone did pitch me a zombie version last year that was sadly unsuccessful in its Kickstarter phase. But, for 2016, there is something new! Behold, the "Modern Nativity," aka "Millennial Nativity" aka the "Hipster Nativity."

Updated 12/13/2016: The Holiday Season presents a tremendous opportunity to teach our children the joy of giving, in helping to provide much-needed cheer for those who may need a hand. When I started THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine six years ago, I had no idea that it would eventually be positioned to make some real impact in the community, but over the past few years that's happened - and for that, I owe gratitude to the readers and supporters of this website that have helped to spread the word and make it grow.

Peter Hollens might be best-known for his A Capella covers of popular songs - covers so well-received that he's racked-up 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube, with his videos reaching nearly a quarter of a billion views since 2011. Having collaborated and performed with artists including Brian Wilson, Jason Mraz, Hunter Hayes, Gladys Knight, Lindsey Stirling, George Watsky, Jackie Evancho, and ThePianoGuys, the next chapter is a Holiday Album for 2016 - A Hollens Family Christmas - an album forged by Hollens' community of fans and supporters, who together helped to shape the track selection. With a promise of new music videos every Friday through the Holiday Season, the first is here with "December Song." Check it out below, and for one of the most comprehensive guides of New Holiday Music & Movies for 2016, check out this feature here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine as part of my annual Holiday Wish Guide.

Holiday Wish Guide: North Pole Kids' Club

Written by

A 2016 #HolidayWishGuide Pick! The Holiday Season has officially begun, and that means it's time to start thinking about securing the perfect gift for those special little ones in your life. When it comes to the Christmas season, there's plenty of "magic" for families regardless of age, but for the little ones, there's a window of opportunity to create magical experiences that really can only happen at certain time in their lives. While The Rock Daughters are just 4 and 7 as of this writing, my wife and I are already thinking ahead to when that magic might wear off, and we're always looking for ways to create those special experiences while we still can. With that in mind, I was pretty excited to learn of the Award-Winning North Pole Kids' Club when I was offered a set to review - a magical box that arrives direct from the "North Pole," complete with a custom welcome letter from Finley the Elf (Santa's trusted assistant, who shares a name with our youngest), and everything you need to certify your children as a Junior Elf.

THE ROCK FATHER Magazine is bringing you this message in partnership with Mom Central...

Ready to kick off the Holiday Season right? Tomorrow, Thursday, November 3rd 2016 from 1:00 – 2:00pm ET, join the #TRUPowerUpFun Twitter Party! Hosted by Mom Central and featuring teams from Duracell, Hasbro and Toys“R”Us, the #TRUPowerUpFun Twitter Party will offer tweeters a chance to talk about the magical feeling that comes over little ones during the holiday season, by reminiscing back to those same feelings when had back we were younger. Participants will have the chance to win one of six (6) $100 Toys 'R' Us Gift Cards, while one (1) Grand Prize winner will score a $250 Toys 'R' Us Gift Card to help with the Holiday shopping!

If my calculations are correct, we're just about six days out from the big holiday switch... a time when Halloween is behind us, and we start rolling full-sleigh ahead toward Christmas and the other festive end-of-year events. Each year, there's always a commercial or two that really captures the spirit of the season, and this year we have an early entry from a Christmas staple - Duracell Batteries. As the official battery power of the STAR WARS franchise and the forthcoming ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS Story (out December 16), Duracell is helping to power imaginative play by donating one million batteries to 147 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the U.S. To celebrate, and to encourage others to support the CMN mission, a new commercial has been released from director Simon McQuoid that takes viewers on a mission to deliver a very special Droid, through the minds of children. Check it out...

Do you hear the sleigh bells jingling? You might not want to admit it, but Christmas is just over three months away, and as the official launch of my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide approaches, my annual list of Holiday Music & Movies is open for business here at THE ROCK FATHER Magazine! My hand-picked list of each year's best new releases and reissues will be updated weekly throughout the season, and one of today's additions is an expanded version of last year's MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC Holiday Album - A PONY KIND OF CHRISTMAS.

I'm not entirely sure where she'd even seen it, but last year, our oldest daughter, Addie, only had one wish for Santa: The Original Miracle Melting Snowman. It's actually pretty charming that for a girl that "has everything," she always ends up asking Santa for some relatively simple things come Christmastime. Now, it actually took me a little bit to figure out what she meant by "I want a melting snowman," but as always, Mr. Claus delivered - a 3" snowman that can "melt" before your very eyes. With my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide™ taking shape and soon to launch, I'm presenting the Melting Snowman as an early entry that's Rock Father-approved as a perfect stocking stuffer. Check out the hands-on time-lapse video below, straight from the Toy Testing Facility at Rock Father HQ!

Red Band Trailer: BAD SANTA 2

Written by

I think this just might mark two years in a row that I've officially kicked-off the Holiday coverage here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine with a trailer for a film that is anything but "family-friendly." I'm a massive fan of the Holiday season, hence why I go heavy into coverage of Holiday Music & Movies each and every year here on the site, and as always - I'll be giving you a look at entertainment for the entire family - kids and grownups alike. This one though? NSFW as they say, the red-band trailer for the long-awaited BAD SANTA 2, a sequel 13 years in the making. Watch this, but not with the kids around... trust me on that!
