After penning an unexpected Christmas song during a trip to New York City, Irish singer-songwriter JANET DEVLIN has announced a November 27th release date for her first-ever Holiday EP, DECEMBER DAZE via OK! Good Records. The five-track EP will feature a pair of originals ("December Daze", "Happy Holidays"), two traditional Christmas numbers ("Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", "Silent Night") and a cover of Joni Mitchell's "River." Pre-orders are up now on PledgeMusic.
We're in a magical time, folks. The original content from Netflix (an organization I'm privileged to be associated with as a member of their #StreamTeam) is coming faster than ever, and it just keeps getting better. From MARVEL's DAREDEVIL and JESSICA JONES, to CARE BEARS & COUSINS and THE POPPLES (oh yes), there's so much great stuff in the pipeline, and the Holiday season is certainly not immune to the Golden touch. Netflix just released a teaser for A VERY MURRAY CHRISTMAS, and it's truly a delight. If I didn't know better, I'd think that I felt a snowflake on my cheek while watching Bill Murray, Paul Shaffer, George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Rashida Jones, Michael Cera and much of Hollywood having an adventure in NYC. Check it out...
It was November 16, 1990 that audiences first experienced John Hughes' HOME ALONE on the big-screen. With a cinematic return set for this November to celebrate its 25th Anniversary, families can get that big-screen experience once more... but for repeat enjoyment at home (alone, if you choose), there's the just-released HOME ALONE 25th Anniversary Collection. Packaged in a limited edition paint can, you get all five movies in the HOME ALONE Saga (the first two of which are on Blu-ray, the rest on DVD), packaged with fun prop replicas and trinkets that add to the holiday fun. As an early entry into my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, my friends at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and I are getting one lucky reader a set of their own (MSRP: $69.99)! Plus, I did a live unboxing via Periscope (hence, not HD) that's been captured and uploaded to YouTube - so you can see exactly what's in the set, and hear my commentary on each piece. Ready to enter?
There's a small percentage of folks out there who might gripe that it's "too early" to be thinking about... writing about... or encouraging the purchase of Holiday decor. Those people are wrong, and I can tell you this from a "past life" working retail, and from my longtime work in the music business. Holiday action in October is not a new thing - heck, even the famous CHRISTMAS ALBUM by ELVIS PRESLEY was released on October 15, 1957! Fact is, if you want the good stuff, you need to plan ahead and act early, and that's exactly why my annual Holiday Wish Guide is rolling out now on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. This year, I've partnered with US Family Guide and Fisherman Creations to help spread the word about Crab Pot Christmas Trees - incredible, MADE IN THE USA decorations that are visible and sparkling from any angle. Readers of THE ROCK FATHER can get 20% off and FREE Shipping with promo code USFG right now at CrabPotTrees.com! See them in-action below...
When it comes to diecast rides, there's a lot that we love, and our fleet increases regularly here at Rock Father HQ. Among the latest to start rockin' the road with The Rock Daughters are the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES T-Machines - reviewed here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine earlier this Fall. Created by Playmates Toys and available in the diecast aisles of your favorite toy emporiums right now, these vehicles take inspiration from Nickelodeon's hit TMNT animated series, placing each character (heroes and villains alike) in vehicles that would be totally appropriate for "raising shell" on the streets of NYC. An official entry into The Rock Father's 2015 Holiday Wish Guide, the T-Machines are also the very first Holiday Wish Guide Giveaway for the season, with one lucky reader taking home a seriously Turtle-riffic prize pack that includes two (2) basic vehicles, two (2) vehicles with sound, and one (1) basic playset - all chosen at random from the available assortment!
Last year, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and WWE Studios got into the "Holiday Cheer" game with the release of JINGLE ALL THE WAY 2, which I covered extensively. Campy as some of them may be, I really love holiday movies, so when word arrived that WWE & Fox had another one in the pipeline, my jingle bells started ring ding dingin'. SANTA'S LITTLE HELPER arrives on DVD and Digital HD™ on Tuesday, November 17, with viewers invited to "Ho-ho-hold on tight for holiday hijinks" in the new family comedy starring WWE® Superstar Mike “The Miz” Mizanin®, WWE Diva Paige™ and AnnaLynne McCord (DALLAS, NIP/TUCK).
This one is not for the kids, folks. Or, maybe it is (if they've been naughty!), as I've often mentioned that more children should know the legend of the Krampus. Perhaps it's because of my own German roots, but I do love the Krampus - the opposite of Santa Claus, you could say - a creature that punishes the naughty kids instead of rewarding the good ones. My wife does not share my love of the Krampus, so when THE HIPWADERS' new CD single (yes, those still exist) arrived with "El Chupacabra" and "der Krampus," I was giddy. Heck, even THE AQUABATS! have squared off against the legendary monster, so when news came down that Legendary Pictures was letting TRICK 'R TREAT director Michael Dougherty make a big-screen KRAMPUS adventure, I was totally on-board. Now the trailer is here, and what a sight to behold... the perfect marriage of two of my favorite things - Halloween and Xmas. Check out the trailer below, and pre-order your tickets now via Fandango!
When it comes to holiday movies, its no secret that I have a real soft spot for them. One of the greatest is also very much a "Chicago" movie, and one written by a local icon - the late John Hughes. HOME ALONE turns 25 this year, and the folks at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment are releasing a collection that I'm officially adding to my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide here on THE ROCK FATHER - the HOME ALONE 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collection! This new set features all five films in the HOME ALONE franchise, along with some cool collectibles that come packed-in a paint can.
By now, the Dancing Baby Groot from the end of MARVEL's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is a familiar, if not iconic fixture for even those who haven't seen the movie. Here at our house, The Rock Daughters even associate the little guy with The Jackson 5, breaking into that "Groot dance" whenever they hear "I Want You Back." I also have the Funko Pop! Vinyl Dancing Groot here in my office, and they always want to play with him. Now, with the holiday season fast-approaching, Funko is releasing a special edition Pop! Vinyl that brings it all together... Holiday Dancing Groot!
Brian Setzer is one of my favorite guitarists and performers of all-time, his extensive discography well-worn here at Rock Father HQ. Of his many projects, THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA has long-been a favorite, and with my penchant for holiday music also deep-rooted, their Christmas albums and occasional tours have also been a big deal. It was recently announced that The BSO would release their first studio Christmas album in a decade on October 16th (via Surfdog Records), with ROCKIN' RUDOLPH currently up for pre-order via PledgeMusic. Now comes word that the band is hitting the road, and their 12th Annual CHRISTMAS ROCKS! Tour is hitting 31 cities this Holiday Season!
According to star Seth Rogen, THE NIGHT BEFORE is a movie that "was made by Jews about Christmas and opens on Thanksgiving." That's completely accurate, and Columbia/Sony Pictures' forthcoming Xmas comedy marks the first time that I've kicked-off a Holiday Movie Season by featuring a film that's completely not family-friendly. In fact, unless you work somewhere really cool, the just-released red-band trailer is probably not even safe for your place of employment. Funny enough, Rogen's church scene is pretty close to my own visits to a house of worship... minus the Star of David sweater.
