As our three-year-old continues to grow and explore, it’s interesting to see what elements of pop culture she’s starting to identify with. One recent interest is perfect for the spooky season, and comes in at Day 30 of this year’s 31 Days of Halloween. I’m talking about a mystery-solving Great Dane known as SCOOBY-DOO.
After watching a few episodes of the recent incarnation, SCOOBY DOO! MYSTERY INCORPORATED, on Cartoon Network, Addie started asking for Scooby. Now that Boomerang is re-running 1985’s THE 13 GHOSTS OF SCOOBY-DOO (featuring Vincent Price as Vincent Van Ghoul), we’ve been checking those out all month, while delving deeper into the back catalogue of Scooby’s monster-hunting past adventures.

Aside from the show, McDonald’s has Scooby-Doo Happy Meals for Halloween, and much to my wife’s dismay, we’ve grabbed two of those. In fact, the little one thinks that McDonald’s is actually called “The Coffee Store,” since Mommy and Daddy often stop at the drive-through for a cup.
And, as if this season wasn’t on Scooby-overload to begin with (she actually sings the old-school theme song now), it was elevated to a whole new level when we encountered The Mystery Machine from Volo Auto Museum on a recent excursion. Dressed as Batgirl, the munchkin made a valiant attempt to drive the van.
While there’s only one day left ’till Halloween, I have a feeling we’ll be enjoying the adventures of Scooby and the gang for some time to come.
