It’s been 50 years since THE BERENSTAIN BEARS first arrived with the publication of THE BIG HONEY HUNT, a book that launched what would become a lasting legacy of children’s entertainment. While we have a few different Berenstain books here at Rock Father HQ, it’s the cartoon (which currently airs on PBS Kids’ Sprout) that my oldest daughter most identifies with. In the spirit of the season, the folks over at Phase 4 Films have issued THE BERENSTAIN BEARS’ SPOOKY STORIES (50th Anniversary Edition) on DVD through their KaBOOM! Entertainment.
While these stories have been reissued several times in the past, this new 2012 collection features five episodes on one DVD, including the popular “Trick or Treat” episode, which brings The Berenstain Bears into The Rock Father’s 31 Days of Halloween.
“Brother and Sister plan to avoid Widder Jones’ house when they go trick or treating because neighbourhood lore has it that she’s a witch. Mama knows Widder Jones personally and tells the cubs what a sweet person she is. When the evening is over the cubs agree with Mama. They enjoyed visiting Widder Jones more than anyone else that Halloween.”
