I literally just cancelled my subscription to NETFLIX Streaming last week. Sure, it was only $7.99 a month, but I’ve been trying to cut costs around here (since everything else seems to be rising in price) and all of these little expenses add up quickly. Honestly, we just weren’t watching it enough to justify it, despite a solid collection of kids’ programming. Now comes news that Hulu has launched HULU KIDS, a new, commercial-free service available to their Hulu Plus members. Coincidentally, Hulu Plus also runs $7.99 a month.
The lineup on Hulu Kids boasts 43 shows as of today, with some fantastic content from PBS KIDS (CAILLOU, DINOSAUR TRAIN, THOMAS & FRIENDS, SUPER WHY!), NICKELODEON (TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS), and more. There’s also some oddities like ALF TALES and RAMBO.
We watch a lot of these shows on PBS KIDS and SPROUT here at Rock Father HQ, and between the DVR, some DVD collections, and the selection available at the local public library, I think we’re set – so we won’t be signing up for the wonders of instant gratification. Since I don’t have an iPad or other tablet device for the munchkins to gaze at while we’re out and about, the portability is lost on me as well, but for those of you that dig the on-the-go convenience, definitely give this a look.
