ZEAMU Music (Album Review)

ZEAMU Music is an interesting beast. Not really a “band,” but more of a consciously-assembled musical “project” for kids, Zeamu Music is much like the GORILLAZ for the kindie set. Previously-covered here on The Rock Father last November, Zeamu Music was created by a pair of UK-based “Mumprenuers” (Barbara Bishop and Fiona Case) alongside creative director Simon Case, who brought together a top-notch group of songwriters and performers to craft a family-friendly pop-rock album that’s actually sung by children.

ZeamuDon’t let the voices of the little ones fool you, this is no KIDZ BOP (read my thoughts on that terrible series here), but a pretty solid and unique 14-track collection. Lyrically tapping into the topical realm of school-aged children, Zeamu Music has enough of the “Top 40” pop vibe (“OMG”, “Aeroplanes”) to grab young ears pretty quickly, while being peppered with indie-rock jams (“What Do You Want?”, “Doing the Robot”) that recall bands like TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB, BLUR and early RADIOHEAD (pre-blip/blorp-era, when they still rocked).

Check out the video for “It’s The Weekend” (oddly, retitled from it’s original name – “OMG!”):

Songs on Zeamu Music were written and produced by Grammy nominee Owen Parker (James Morrison, Rebecca Ferguson, Annie Lennox, Girls Aloud), Casper & Jonas (Damon Albarn, Gorillaz, Beth Orton, Keith Levene of The Clash, Noel Gallagher) Jimi Ashmore (Star Sailor, So Solid, Sugababes) Lee Gretton (Ads for ITV, MTV, Sky, Olympics 2012) and Jonathan Pilcher (Block Party, Super Furry Animals) among others.

Zeamu Music is available now on iTunes or the official site.
