The folks at KaBOOM! have been doing some incredible work over the years, completing well over 2,000 playground builds as they move toward their mission of making sure that every child has a safe place to play within walking distance of their home. While it’s nice to check out a website or see a story in the news, nothing is more impactful than viewing it with your own eyes – and I’ve seen what KaBOOM! can accomplish first-hand, as there are two parks that we visit that were the result of volunteer-staffed builds. In fact, I just shot some video of my girls playing at one of them this week (technically, we’ve been there twice this week)… take a look:

Now, KaBOOM! is moving closer to announcing the winner of their search for “America’s Most Playful Family,” a contest that they’ve been doing over the past few months along with the folks at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. 50 finalists have been chosen, with entries received from every state.
To help announce the winner, Rico Rodriguez, star of ABC’s hit sitcom MODERN FAMILY, and his sister, actress Raini Rodriguez from Disney Channel’s popular AUSTIN & ALLY, along with Olympic Gold Medalist Joss Christensen and ESPN SportsCenter anchor Jay Harris, will join a panel of other judges including Eric Garcetti, mayor of Los Angeles; Richard Wiese, author and host of Born to Explore TV; Rob DeMartini, CEO of New Balance; Stephanie White, member of the KaBOOM! Board of Directors; and Liza Sullivan and Cyndi Nguyen, both KaBOOM! playmakers.
