A documentary about ballet isn’t necessarily something I’d normally feature here on the site, but with both of my girls having wrapped their first run with ballet in the spring – and starting a year-long run of classes this Saturday – my eyes are more open to it (and yes, I did see BLACK SWAN in the theater). IFC Films sent over the trailer for their Sundance Selects release, A BALLERINA’S TALE, the story of Misty Copeland, the first African-American dancer in the American Ballet Theater. The film by Nelson George arrives in theaters and on VOD October 14, 2015. Take a look…

About the Film: Iconic ballerina Misty Copeland made history when she became the first African-American woman to be named principal dancer of the legendary American Ballet Theater. Get the incredible, behind-the-scenes story of how she overcame a tumultuous upbringing and near career-ending injuries to become one of the most revered dancers of her generation. More than just a ballet success story, Copeland’s journey is a hugely inspirational, universal tale of perseverance.
