Brought to you by Woodfield Mall – A Simon Mall

Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago during the 1980s, there were certain malls that became legendary. Shopping in those pre-internet days was a different type of thing, but visiting those malls wasn’t just about shopping… it was about family, and a lot of memories were made within the halls of fashion, toys and commerce during special trips. While the Circus World/K-B Toys, Marshall Field’s, and Sam Goody stores of my youth have been swapped for the LEGO Store, Macy’s and F.Y.E., one of those legendary malls is bigger and stronger-than-ever, the mighty Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois – just minutes west of Chicago.  With the official arrival of Spring comes the arrival of The Easter Bunny, and his presence at Woodfield Mall makes for another of those special trips that families will remember forever.

The Easter Bunny at Woodfield Mall

We took The Rock Daughters to Woodfield Mall for an Easter adventure this past weekend, taking part in the Simon Kidgits Eggstravaganza, where the little ones were able to take part in a variety of fun activities and crafts. There was a Bunny Hop Sack Race, Hopscotch, Bean Bag Toss, a Cookie Decorating Station, Easter Mask-making and more.  The highlight, of course, was the annual meeting with the Bunny himself, and this year’s set is really nice – springtime magic with a little bit of urban flair.

On any visit to Woodfield, some time in the play area is a must, with both girls making new friends (as always) and taking part in some epic games of hide-and-seek.

After stops at The Disney Store and The LEGO Store, we opted for a late lunch at Kinfork, one of Woodfield’s latest dining options, and one that made fast-fans of our family, serving-up American-style food in a sorta-upscale BBQ & Moonshine environment. Great hushpuppies, and they had a kid’s menu that our kids actually ate. You’d think chicken strips and grilled cheese would be pretty basic, but a lot of places get it wrong – Kinfork got it right, and my brisket and my wife’s pesto were excellent.
