Mariah Carey and Vevo unveiled a new Footnotes episode, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the “All I Want for Christmas (Make My Wish Come True Edition)” video. The release (and some limited-edition merch) marks the 30th anniversary of one of the most iconic holiday songs of all time.
Directed by Joseph Kahn, the video channels the glitz and charm of Busby Berkeley’s Hollywood musicals. Kahn described the project as an attempt to create the ultimate Christmas music video, admitting he was starstruck upon Carey’s arrival on set. The dazzling sequences, featuring synchronized dancers and elaborate staging, took hours to perfect. Carey reflected on the challenges of blending with the dancers, noting that choreography isn’t her strong suit.
Special guests include Mykal-Michelle Harris, who portrays a young Mariah alongside cameos by Carey’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan, and her dog, Cha Cha. Kahn’s daughter, Josie, also appears as a gift-popping angel.
The song, the best-selling Christmas single by a female artist, continues to break records, with over 1.5 billion video views and 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Limited-edition products commemorating the album’s milestone are now available at Amazon.
