Toyota Reignites Scion with Wild Off-Road Concept

Published:

I’ve been a big fan of Toyota’s Scion brand since day one, so this brings a smile to my face: Nearly 10 years after it was retired, Scion is back — and it’s wilder than ever.

At SEMA 2025 in Las Vegas, Toyota unveiled the Scion 01 Concept, a radical off-road side-by-side that marks the unexpected return of a name once synonymous with creativity, experimentation, and youth-driven innovation.

Born from the minds of Toyota’s North American engineering team, the Scion 01 Concept is a turbocharged hybrid beast built for dirt, dunes, and everything in between. Its high-output four-cylinder hybrid setup produces more than 300 horsepower, while offering a Silent Mode that allows drivers to glide through the wilderness on electric power alone — no noise, just nature.

“The Scion 01 Concept is about taking what we do best at Toyota and blending it with the passions that drive us,” said Don Federico, chief engineer and vice president of Vehicle Performance Development. “It’s the intersection of advanced performance and our deep enthusiasm for adventure. By bringing those worlds together in a side-by-side format, we’re exploring how Toyota performance can live in entirely new spaces — and inspire a new generation of enthusiasts to get out and go.”

Designed from the ground up, the concept flexes Toyota’s off-road heritage with trail-ready suspension, balanced track width, and an FIA-compliant safety cage that meets SCORE racing standards. CALTY Design Studios handled the visual side, crafting a machine that’s as sleek as it is capable.

The Scion 01 Concept reimagines what off-road performance can be — part heritage, part future, and all adventure. While this ride isn’t available for sale and enters a new category,  we dig seeing the Scion name back in action.

Now, Toyota, if you want to get rolling on an elevated reimagining of the xB, give The Rock Father a call. He has a much-loved OG that needs restoration… or perhaps a resto-mod.
