PBS KIDS VIPCan you believe that Back-to-School Season is already here? In just about a month, I’ll officially have a kindergartener, and that sorta weirds me out. Five years of parenting already? Alas, my friends at PBS Distribution have scored a coup, partnering with Walmart for their “BACK TO SCHOOL PRESCHOOL PROMOTION,” – designed to entertain children during the summer months when school’s out, but prep them for what lies ahead. Parents can find specially marked (and priced) educational, episodic DVDs from CAILLOU, WORDGIRL, ARTHUR and DANIEL TIGER, each covering the major learning categories taught throughout the academic year such as social skills, reading, math, and science. Here’s what you can look for…

wmwordgirlIn WORDGIRL: EARTH DAY GIRL, children learn about how they can help save the planet.  WORDGIRL learns that the Earth is having a special celebration (on her birthday!).  She decides to teach the Earth a lesson. Will WORDGIRL find a way to stop the Birthday Girl and save Earth Day? Episodes include: Earth Day Girl, You Can’t Crush City Hall, Two Brain Highway, Jerky Jerk, Tobey or Consequences, Mr. Big, Coupon Madness, and Lady Redundant Woman.

wmdtigerIn DANIEL TIGER NEIGHBORHOOD: LIFE’S LITTLE LESSONS four-year-old Daniel Tiger invites young viewers directly into his world, giving them a kid’s eye view of his life and making them feel like one of his neighbors. As they follow Daniel’s everyday adventures, preschoolers and their families learn fun and practical strategies and skills necessary for dealing with everyday experiences. They learn how to deal with new experiences, take turns with a favorite toy, and bathroom and daily routines.
