Every time I write a news item like this, I always feel just a tiny bit bummed that I usually don’t have the time to consume and enjoy all of the pop culture I find myself writing about – there’s just too much of it! A prime example I hope to read comes this November when IDW Publishing and DC Comics unleash their latest crossover – BATMAN and the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. Now, the idea of the the two existing in the same universe isn’t entirely far-fetched, but any potential continuity problems are taken care of by the plot itself, a synopsis for which has just-arrived…
“In the ongoing power struggle between the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, General Krang, and the Foot Clan, allegiances have shifted and the battle lines have been drawn. Krang concocts a plan to rid himself of both the Turtles and Shredder by transporting them to another dimension, where they land in the dark and dangerous streets of Gotham City. It isn’t long before they encounter Gotham’s most famous resident, Batman. The Caped Crusader may be their only hope of overcoming their enemies and getting back home. But not before they encounter a whole cast of Gotham’s most infamous rogues.”
A cross-dimension battle, and maybe I’m reading a little too much into it, but BATMAN is looking pretty Ben Affleck-esque in the preview art that was revealed at Comic-Con International today…
BATMAN/TMNT comes from writer James Tynion IV (BATMAN: ETERNAL, CONSTANTINE) and artist Freddie E. Williams II (ROBIN, CAPTAIN ATOM) handling interior and cover art. Additionally, TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman will do some variant covers, as will other artists TBA.
The six-issue miniseries gets started in November.
