Halloween 2009 – Addie, who many of you now know as the oldest of The Rock Daughters™, was just just 2½ months old, and I was missing her first Halloween. At the time, I was working for Fangoria, and my adventures had taken me to Las Vegas for an event at The Palms Casino, and as part of that there was a costume contest that I emceed and introduced. The two judges to whom I would pass the mic? Actor Ken Foree (DAWN OF THE DEAD), and someone that’s familiar to several generations… “E.T.’s mom,” Dee Wallace. While she might be best-known from E.T., Wallace was certainly in a lot of other movies that I’ve enjoyed from that era – generally the more monstrous fare like THE HOWLING, CUJO and CRITTERS. Off-screen, Dee has spent years working as a Life Coach, and her journey has led to the creation of BuppaLaPaloo – a new interactive bear “that teaches children to love themselves.” Launched on Kickstarter this week to coincide with National Teddy Bear Day, BuppaLaPaloo is designed to help kids build self-esteem at a young age, giving them a foundation for the future.
