In MARVEL’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, one of the most important elements wasn’t what was being seen on-screen, but what was being heard. Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord was constantly rockin’ his “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” on cassette tape, and as such, new audiences were exposed to some songs that they might not’ve been familiar with – particularly, kids. When Disney XD’s new GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY animated series makes its debut during a special one-hour premiere on September 26 (back-to-back episodes at 9:30 PM ET), audiences will discover that the musical vibe of James Gunn’s cinematic world has been kept intact for its cartoon companion. MARVEL has announced an October 16 release date for “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Mix Vol. 1 (Music from the Animated Television Series)” and the tracklisting is good.

While these songs are already well-known by many, I love the fact that younger generations are getting a musical education in an unlikely place. The Rock Daughters and their friends all stop to do “the Groot dance” whenever THE JACKSON 5 comes on, and with these songs scattered throughout the first season of the new series, it’s very possible that some other memorable pairings could occur.
