From Director Ken Marino, DOG DAYS (reviewed here) is now playing in theaters everywhere, and ahead of its U.S. release, I had the opportunity to attend the the film’s World Premiere at the Westfield Century City in Los Angeles, California. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon in L.A., but the stars were were out to see what I’ve already pegged as being “a late summer surprise” – a comedy about an unrelated group of people and how their canine companions somehow managed to bring them all together.

I’ve had the good fortune to attend a number of premieres, but not one on an afternoon as early as this one – and it was truly a family affair for the cast, crew and special guests alike. Much of the cast was in attendance, including Nina Dobrev, Rob Corddry, Jon Bass, Finn Wolfhard, Jessica St. Clair, Michael Cassidy, Vanessa Hudgens, Tone Bell, Eva Longoria and Elizabeth Phoenix Caro (all pictured top, left-to-right with Marino), Toks Olagundoye, Tony Cavalero, Phoebe Neidhardt and Matt Cordova. The craft soda and beer was flowing for grownups, while kids enjoyed balloon animals, candy stations and summer treats like corn dogs and grilled cheese.
There’s some messaging both in the film and its marketing about how we come to find our dogs, and it’s one of “adopt, don’t shop” since so many loving dogs of all ages are already out there, waiting in shelters for a good home. At the DOG DAYS premiere, there were dogs on-hand, and they were all up for adoption. Indeed, I strongly considered smuggling a new friend onto the plane, but I wasn’t sure how our “old man” Harry here at Rock Father HQ would’ve taken to a new puppy. Check out Petco Foundation to see some of the great stuff they’re doing and how you can locate a new friend of your own!.
