A chapter in history will close today in Missouri.

Fire In The Hole, the world’s longest-standing indoor roller coaster, will have its final ride at Silver Dollar City in the Ozarks.

Using social media, Silver Dollar City selected 48 riders to close the legendary coaster that pays tribute to local legend and has been in operation since 1972. Tonight, following the closing of the coaster’s queue line and final daily riders, the 48 giveaway winners will board the coaster’s four trains for one last ride.

“Though we are now down to the final hours of the original Fire In The Hole, this ride has been meaningful to our guests for generations,” says Brad Thomas, President of Silver Dollar City. “The coaster tells a story of the Ozark Mountains and is uniquely Silver Dollar City, but also a ride families can ride together, as millions of children have ridden with their parents and grandparents. We know we will still have many first-time riders, while some have ridden countless times over the decades, returning this weekend for one last memory. Many of those guests even first rode with their grandparents years ago, now riding with their own grandkids!”

Following the coaster’s final ride, the 48 riders will each receive a mounted piece of the coaster track, along with other keepsakes commemorating the event.

The NEW Fire In The Hole

As the original Fire In The Hole closes, a new beginning is on the horizon as Silver Dollar City continues construction on a new, $30 million ride inspired by the original.

The all-new Fire In The Hole will be nearly a third-of-a-mile long and feature a powered incline, three gravity-driven drops, and a quick-splash landing. According to the park, “a custom soundtrack with high-resolution onboard audio, show lighting effects, and enhanced special effects will drop riders into the famous Fire In The Hole story.”

Silver Dollar City’s new Fire In The Hole will anchor the new Fire District, an expanded version of the current Fireman’s Landing area.

The new Fire In The Hole opens in spring 2024 alongside a new restaurant and shopping destination for park guests to enjoy.
