On March 29th, DC Comics will release their March Annuals, and in them they will be showcasing some new ideas for their expanding Hanna-Barbera comics line with 8-page samplers of the new stories. Among them are THE JETSONS by writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner with art by Pier Brito, TOP CAT by writer Dan DiDio with art by Phil Winslade, RUFF AND REDDY by writer/artist Howard Chaykin, and SNAGGLEPUSS by writer Mark Russell with art by Howard Porter. For the latter, the crew sent over an early preview page, so check out your first look at SNAGGLEPUSS!
About the new concept, Mark Russell recently stated in an interview with HiLoBrow that his concept for Snagglepuss is as “a gay Southern gothic playwright working with an ensemble cast of cultural figures, exploring an intensely creative time in the New York City theater scene of the 1950s.”
Perhaps it’s timely that in Russell’s eight-page preview, Snagglepuss faces the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
Pick up Snagglepuss’ first adventure as the back-up story in the even more “out-there” Suicide Squad/Banana Splits Annual #1.
“SUICIDE SPLITS”! Mistaken for metahumans, thrown in the bowels of Belle Reve, the animal rock band Banana Splits are recruited by Amanda Waller for a secret mission: to save the Suicide Squad! What follows is the weirdest team-up you never thought you’d see! How can Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky stand up to Harley, Deadshot, Katana and Croc?
