And here I thought I had no time before…

Yesterday, Disney Publishing Worldwide and Lucasfilm announced JOURNEY TO STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, a hugely ambitious publishing program that will bring forth more than 20 new titles in print and digital, “and will feature new narrative stories for middle grade and young adults as well as comics, illustrated reference, Look and Find, and sticker book formats. Stories are set to star characters old and new, and retell classic STAR WARS tales from new perspectives.”

All of the new titles will be canonical within the STAR WARS universe, and in-continuity with the STAR WARS films, animated series, new books, and Marvel comics. The massive effort is in collaboration between Disney-Lucasfilm and its publishing partners, including Del Rey, DK, Egmont UK, Marvel, Phoenix International Publications, Inc., Studio Fun International, and Topps.

Some titles are already available for pre-order and include:
  • Star Wars: Aftermath (Del Rey)
  • Lost Stars (Disney-Lucasfilm Press)
  • Smuggler’s RunA Han Solo Adventure (Disney-Lucasfilm Press)

The flaps of the fold-out feature even more ships such as the X-Wing, the Mon Cal Cruiser, and a brand-new ship from The Force Awakens.

Novels for young adults, focusing on Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia, will be published by Disney-Lucasfilm Press in North America and distributed internationally. The young adult novels have notable talent attached, including Cecil Castellucci (Boy ProofTin Star), Greg Rucka, New York Times best-selling author (Detective Comics and 52), Jason Fry (The Clone Wars: Darth Maul: Shadow ConspiracyStar Wars Insider contributor) and New York Times best-selling author Claudia Gray (The Firebird trilogy and Evernight series).

We’ve already become invested in the first three MARVEL series’ to hit the streets – STAR WARS, DARTH VADER and PRINCESS LEIA, and with KANAN: THE LAST PADAWAN coming shortly, who knows how we’ll ever keep up. One option is the Trade Paperback editions, several of which already have street dates. STAR WARS: VOL. 1 is out 9/15 along with the complete STAR WARS: PRINCESS LEIA miniseries,  STAR WARS: DARTH VADER VOL 1 on 10/20, and the complete KANAN on November 3.
