It’s been buzzed about for ages, but today it’s official – the folks from LEGO have fired up the DeLorean for an official BACK TO THE FUTURE LEGO set. Based on an idea sourced from their LEGO CUUSOO program, the BACK TO THE FUTURE TIME MACHINE was created by Team BTTF and is now being developed for sale. As posted in the official announcement video (see below), “this set is so new that pricing and availability information is not yet available.” The follks from Team BTTF created prototypes for DeLorean Time Machine sets based on all three films in the BACK TO THE FUTURE Trilogy, along with associated minifigures. While the final production designs are not yet available to view, take a look at the impressive prototypes.

Since Universal Studios & U-Drive Joint Venture have licensed BACK TO THE FUTURE to LEGO, it will be interesting to see if this spawns a new line a la HARRY POTTER or STAR WARS after the initial set. For some inspiration, Team BTTF already has an Ultimate Collector’s Series DeLorean, a Hill Valley Courthouse (complete with Clock Tower), and Biff Tannen’s Ford (manure not included) ready to roll if LEGO were to greenlight them.
As a father that grew up in the 80s, I’m always excited to see properties from my youth cross over into new realms for my kids to enjoy today. We already have the Diamond Select Toys version of the DeLorean here at Rock Father HQ, and I can see some BTTF LEGOs in our future…
