#GhostbustersWeek continues with a look at Ghostbustin’ in brick form…
For several years, GHOSTBUSTERS was one of the most-requested licenses that fans were rallying for the folks at LEGO Group to get their hands on. After a successful run as part of the LEGO Ideas program, eventually an Ecto-1 along with the classic lineup of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore in minifigure form was released. While that set first hit in 2014 to celebrate 30 years of the 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS film, for 2016, there’s plenty of options when it comes to the capturing and containment of ghosts in LEGO brick form, from building sets to the toys-to-life LEGO Dimensions Video Game…
LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & 2 (75828) – Based on the 2016 film, this set retails $10 higher than the one based on the 1984 film, not for some nefarious reason, but because you’re getting five minifigures instead of four, and a second vehicle. The 2016 version of the Ecto-1 is a more recent Cadillac hearse, while the Ecto-2 is a small motorcycle. The Ecto-1 features a removable roof, seats for 4 Ghostbusters heroes, opening front doors, rear storage with opening door for some ghostbusting accessories (it comes with 4 proton packs, proton sidearm and an ion shield gun) and a side ladder. Figures include Abby Yates, Erin Gilbert, Jillian Holtzmann, Patty Tolan and Kevin, plus a Mayhem figure. We haven’t acquired this one yet, but I sense that The Rock Daughters and I will build it eventually.
LEGO Ghostbusters 75827 Firehouse Headquarters Building Kit – At $349.99 and with 4,634 pieces, this is one of those sets that I can admire from afar, but would probably not buy – if only for the question of “where to put it?” once completed.
This incredible set comes with 9 minifigures: Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, Janine Melnitz, Dana Barrett, Louis Tully, Zombie Driver and Library Ghost, in addition to Slimer, Pink Ghost and Blue Ghost.
It measures over 14″ (36cm) high, 9″ (25cm) wide and 14″ (38cm) deep, and with its walls opened out, measures over 14″ (36cm) high, 18″ (46 cm) wide and 14″ (38cm) deep!

LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (21108) – The set that started it all, I received mine as a birthday gift from my wife and the girls two years ago. Featuring paranormal detection equipment, removable roof, tracking computer and seats for 3 minifigures, this ride also comes complete with Proton Packs and Wands for all four members of the team, plus a ghost trap and walkie talkies.
GHOSTBUSTERS: ANSWER THE CALL (2016) Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they’re here to save the world!
