While I thought they were a little weird up front (more on that in a few), MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS first arrived here at Rock Father HQ last Fall, securing a place in my Holiday Gift Guide before we’d even seen the movie. The Hasbro dolls were an immediate hit with Addie, and we’ve since added a few more to the collection, as well as the movie, which the folks at Shout! Factory graciously sent us after reading my post on the toys. This Fall, the Equestria Girls are back – and they’ve got a band! MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS: RAINBOW ROCKS is headed for theaters on September 27, with Screenvision, Hasbro Studios and Shout! Factory bringing the film to more that 300 cinemas across the U.S. and Canada ahead of it’s October 28 Blu-ray and DVD release. Truth be told, Addie’s been asking me about this ever since the RAINBOW ROCKS dolls started popping up at Toys “R” Us this past spring. Preview the film below, right here on THE ROCK FATHER…

My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks
Canterlot High (CHS) hosting a musical showcase, and Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy are going to be performing with their new band, The Rainbooms. But when The Dazzlings, a new girl group, arrive at CHS and convince everyone to turn the friendly showcase into a Battle of the Bands, tensions mount between the competing musical acts. A now-reformed Sunset Shimmer realizes that the Dazzlings may not be ordinary girls and are after something far more sinister than just being named Best Band at Canterlot High. The Rainbooms call on Princess Twilight to restore harmony to their world to help them perform a musical counter-spell so that they can win a battle that now determines the fate of the entire school!

Learn more about MY LITTLE PONY EQUESTRIA GIRLS: RAINBOW ROCKS on the official site, or get tickets via Fandango. Meanwhile, the fifth season of MY LITTLE PONY FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC is in-production now for a 2015 debut on the Hub Network (or whatever it’s called next year, as rumors of a major overhaul and re-brand are swirling), where the Mega Mare-athon is underway this week.
So, back to what I mentioned in the beginning, I imagine Canterlot High smelling like a stable – or the paddocks at a race track… the high school janitor walking around with a pooper scooper. That’s a valid thought, right?
