31 Days of Halloween: THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS 25th Anniversary Edition

This article is more than 6 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

Much like the constant debate on whether or not Die Hard is a Christmas movie (it is), there’s a frequent clash over whether Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween or a Christmas movie (it’s both). For two-and-a-half decades, the debate has raged on, but in the end audiences are still just happy to enjoy the cross-holiday adventures of Jack Skellington whenever they’d like.  I’ve always found myself to be quite attached to Jack as The Pumpkin King (I’m an October child from the largest pumpkin-producing state in the nation), and his songs have always struck an important chord. That said, The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of those films that I’ve owned over and over again, from VHS to DVD to 20th Anniversary Blu-ray and now the 25th Anniversary Sing-Along Edition. Indeed, despite the music of the film being of such massive importance, a sing-along version for in-home viewing has just now become available.

For those who already own previous releases (particularly the last release), the bonus features will be familiar – though they’re now available everywhere as part of the “Multi-Screen Edition” experience that comes with owning the Blu-ray + Digital HD versions (both included with the Sing-Along). What’s particularly exciting is now that our girls are old enough to really enjoy the film and its music, the Sing-Along Edition is the perfect tool for learning the words for 11 of Danny Elfman’s timeless songs. The lyrics bounce in a bar on the bottom of the screen, while an icon to left continually switches characters to highlight who’s on vocal duties for each line.

It certainly doesn’t change the film in any way, but it does bring a new way to enjoy it – as it was seen in special screenings a few years back.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along Edition is available now – and for those who love toys, check out the new Disney TOYBOX Action Figure of Jack Skellington and Zero, available at Disney Store and ShopDisney!
