This article is more than 8 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been having a contest. Unlike a giveaway, which requires no skill, this required entrants to go old-school and actually do something... more specifically, to make something. To celebrate the in-home release of Disney-Pixar’s THE GOOD DINOSAUR, we held a make-your-own Recyclosaurus contest in which readers were challenged to make their own #GoodDino using recycled materials from around the home. Honestly, all of the entrants were good dinosaurs – each with their own distinct level of accuracy (or lack of – ours included) and charm. I had a real hard time choosing the Grand Prize winner and two runners-up, so I had to defer to my wife, The Rock Mother, if you will. If I could’ve awarded three Grand Prizes, all three of these would’ve got it. And the winners are…

Recyclosaurus

Grand Prize Winner: Hailey and her son. Full disclosure, Hailey is a previous giveaway winner here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine, but that had no bearing on the skill of this creation. With her Mario-loving son taking part, it’s little wonder that this Recyclosaurus bears not only a resemblance to Arlo, but also to Yoshi. Here’s what Hailey had to say about their Good Dino:

“This was a fun homeschooling craft for my son and I! Our Arlo is made from many materials we found around our home. We then paper-mâché’d him with paper towels to give him a dinosaur skin texture before we applied paint.

Materials used: Paper and tin foil for the body/tail/neck (paper mached with paper towels dipped in water/glue mixture), popsicle sticks for legs, soda bottle caps for feet, beads for eyes, foam for nose, nail art decals for back spots, and painted with tempura paint and green food coloring for shading.”

Good Dinosaur

Runner-Up: Stephanie and her daughter. Stephanie added – “Brynn is OBSESSED with our homemade Arlo! We made him from a soda bottle, yogurt stick wrapper, toothpaste box, cup and clothes pins! She loves sharing her blueberries with him and Spot!”

Good Dinosaur

Runner-Up: Jennifer and her daughter.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who entered. Thanks to the Walt Disney Company for sponsoring the prizes, and be sure to pick up THE GOOD DINOSAUR – available to own this week!
