Review: Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic at United Center in Chicago

I am a Feld Family Ambassador, and this post is brought to you as part of that relationship. All opinions are my own.

Disney On Ice is officially a family tradition. Back in January, I posted some thoughts about taking our oldest daughter, Addie, to see Disney On Ice for the very first time – a production of Rockin’ Ever After at the Allstate Arena. Fast-forward nine months, and the crew from Feld Entertainment is back in Chicago with Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic at the United Center… directly across the street from the site of the old Chicago Stadium… the same place that I first saw Disney On Ice back in 1981. This time around was another first… Little Finley, at only 15-months-old, would get her first Disney On Ice experience.

Disney on IceTaking a cue from some kids we saw at our last Disney On Ice, we decided to let the girls get decked-out in their full Disney Princess glory. With a bit of a trip to get into the city, I loaded up the costumes and figured we’d let the little ones change when we got to the United Center parking lot. Addie wasn’t having it, and after talking about “being Cinderella” all day, she scoffed at the costume and insisted on wearing regular clothes. Finn on the other hand? Very excited for her little Snow White dress.

After picking up our tickets (graciously provided to us by the folks at Feld Entertainment), we got settled-in for the main event. Between Finn being slightly scared at first and Addie needing to use the washroom 14 times (yes, that’s an exaggeration), I was up-and-down and in-and-out several times during the performance – but I wasn’t alone. It goes with the territory of taking young kids to a big live event like this. And what an event it was…

Featuring over 60 characters from Disney properties such as CINDERELLA, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LION KING, THE LITTLE MERMAID, LILO AND STITCH, MULAN, PINOCCHIO, ALADDIN, and more combined with familiar faces from the Disney-Pixar films TOY STORY, FINDING NEMO, and THE INCREDIBLES, 100 Years of Magic is a presentation that has something for all Disney fans, girls and boys of all-ages.

Funny enough, Little Finley absolutely LOVED the big fish – the sharks from FINDING NEMO and the whale from PINOCCHIO. She thought they were hilarious. Meanwhile, Addie was super-excited to see Ariel from THE LITTLE MERMAID once more, and seemed to really dig the pyrotechnic elements of the performance. A highlight for me was the IT’S A SMALL WORLD segment that really tapped into my own childhood.

addiepimpcupWhile we did skip the pricey souvenirs this time around, Addie was dead-set on getting “another icy thing in a princess cup” like we got last time. And she did… the $15 snow cone in a Cinderella Snoop Dogg Pimp Cup chalice (we got Rapunzel from TANGLED last time around). All day today, that royal chalice served as her “water cup.” Totally worth it.
