Review: DOC McSTUFFINS – CUDDLE ME LAMBIE (DVD)

This article is more than 9 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

Released earlier this month in timing with Valentine’s Day, CUDDLE ME LAMBIE is the latest DVD collection of the Disney Junior hit DOC McSTUFFINS to hit the streets. While the loveable Lambie (“You need a cuddle”) takes center stage on this five-episode collection (which includes the seasonally-appropriate, “My Huggy Valentine”), one of the highlights for me is that this set includes the classic episode “Kirby And The King”/”Bubble Monkey, Blow Your Nose!” – the first part of which centers on my favorite character from DOC McSTUFFINS lore… the Wicked King.

Oh yes, I may be a 38-ish-year-old man with two Doc-loving daughters, but I most certainly do have a favorite character, and it is the Wicked King who sits atop that mighty throne. Ruling the sandbox and the clinic with no hands (or arms, for that matter) like the classic Fisher-Price Little People that I had as a kid growing up in the 70s/80s, the Wicked King just plain rocks, and his attitude is, well, wicked…

The main issue I have is that there’s no Wicked King toy. This is something I’ve actually exchanged tweets with DOC creator Chris Nee about in the past, and hopefully the folks at Disney Consumer Products will be able to correct this oversight either through Disney Store, or a licensee like Just Play Toys. “Ha-Ha!” and “Zing-Zing!” I say!

Doc McStuffinsBut as a parent whose daughters watch DOC McSTUFFINS religiously, it truly is a very special show, and that’s why I’ve so often written about it here on the site. There is so much good packed into each episode as little Dottie (that’s Doc) and her friends teach lessons of care, compassion, and yes – cuddling. DOC has helped alleviate fear from visits to the Doctor and Dentist, and it’s sometimes surprising just how much the kids absorb from it. During an EKG for my recent gallbladder surgery, Little Finley (2 ½) came with me and sat so patiently in a chair watching me get all hooked up. She asked questions about the equipment, and pointed out some she was familiar with (otoscope, stethoscope). Then, when the wires came off, she looked up to the technician and very clearly said “Thank you for fixing my daddy.”

I completely attribute that to DOC McSTUFFINS.
