This article is more than 11 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

This is a mean-looking ride. From Toy State’s DUB Garage Collection (created with the crew from DUB Magazine) comes the BEAT MAKERZ Dub Edition l331 Muscle Car. One of these free-wheeling toy cars recently arrived for testing in in The Rock Father’s State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house, yard, sidewalk), and now it’s time to share some thoughts on it.

Dub Garage BoxedI’m fairly certain that this is an original design, but there’s definitely hints of some other things going on here – the Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, and Chevrolet Camaro all share some similar lines (the front view even carries a little of that Green Hornet “Black Beauty” vibe). While the car itself is designed for manual-play (i.e. – no motor), it has a sound system packed into the trunk that commands the “Beat Makerz” nameplate.

dubtrunkWith four buttons and four switches (that look like faders on a mixing board), the idea here is that kids can mix up their own hip-hop style beats, complete with the occasional punch or spike. The far-right fader brings some automotive sound into that mix (alarm, tires squeeling, engine revving, horn honking), while all eight controls light up in amber, as the head and tail lights dance in a deep red illumination.

Advertised for Ages 6+, we’re finding it appeals to younger kids as well, with the combo of lights/sounds/buttons/switches making for compelling play. MSRP is under $15, so this is one ride that won’t break the bank, either.

The Rock Father Rating: 3/5 Stars

Disclosure: This vehicle was provided by Toy State for the purpose of possible review consideration. The Rock Father was recently announced to be a 2013-2014 Toy State Test Drive Blogger, though this vehicle was received prior to that engagement. All opinions are that of James Zahn, with input from his children.
