Review: Margaritaville Audio MTX Studio Headphones

This article is more than 10 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

Doing what I do and living the way I live, I’ve used a lot of headphones over the years. While styles have changed and the type of application can be different (I like studio at home, earbuds at the gym), it all comes down to the perfect match of sound and style to impress me, and when the chance came to check out a pair of Margaritaville Audio‘s new MTX Headphones, I snagged it. After a box said to contain their “Margarita Lime” headphones arrived here at Rock Father HQ for review, I put them to the ultimate test and took them out on the road… after giving them an in-home test with a bottle of Landshark Lager, which I figured was appropriate.

Available in six colors, Bahama Blue, Black Sand, Macaw, Conch Pink, Havana Banana, and the Margarita Green, the subdued part of me may have chosen the sleek, Black Sand if given a choice – but having a pair here in-hand, the color really pops and certainly stood out in my travels this past week. Thing is, and it might just be a goof in the press mailings, while my box says “Lime Margarita,” I actually received the Havana Banana with Lime cables. But that’s ok.

After falling out of fashion for a few years, Studio headphones are back in vogue, and truth be told, I’ve always preferred them to the earbuds for home use or here in my office. At under two pounds, these are comfortable – and collapsable. The cushions are soft and comfy, and while these aren’t entirely “noise-cancelling” (nor are they advertised as such), the large earcups do a fine job of keeping the outside noise toned down and the music in. I’ve tested these both here at home (crankin’ the tunes while the family sleeps), and on the road – where my Margaritaville Headphones recently got some airtime on American Airlines flights to and from Cleveland and back to Chicago.

THE ROCK FATHER On Tour

My Havana Bananas turned heads in the airport, while helping me check out the new albums from WEIRD AL YANKOVIC and ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES, along with the just-recorded but not-yet-released debut album from PRODUCT OF HATE (a band I co-manage), and recent tunes from PRONG, MUSHROOMHEAD, POWERMAN 5000 and some classics, too.

Yes, I may prefer things harder than JIMMY BUFFETT most of the time, but “The Sound of Paradise” is certainly in the ear of the beholder.

From my experience with this model, you can consider these Rock Father- Approved!

Addie rocking out!
