While I get to drive and feature a lot of sweet new rides here on THE ROCK FATHER, a big part of our day-to-day is taking care of the ones that we own. My wife and I have a pair of “daily drivers” here at HQ, and the oldest is the one most-often featured when I talk about car care – my rapidly-aging 2005 Scion Xb. While I’ve come very close to replacing it over these past few years, I do have some sentimental attachment to it, having ordered it brand-new back in 2004 with a bunch of options and add-ons. I’ve had many adventures in that little car – over 150,000 miles worth – and that places it firmly in the category of being a “high mileage vehicle.” One of the most simple things to help keep that car on the road for a few more years is by keeping the oil changed, and the folks at Pennzoil have a “High Mileage Vehicle” version of their conventional motor oil that’s specifically designed to help clean out sludge that lesser oils leave behind, while helping to reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines. Better yet, I can get my oil changed at the Walmart Auto Center, maximizing my time by getting some shopping done at the same time.
This past weekend, Little Finley and I had a little time to kill after dropping off Mommy and Addie at a birthday party at a gymnastics center. Needing the ingredients for our planned Sunday chili dinner, we used our time wisely, popping into the Walmart Auto Center to drop off the Scion for an oil change while Finn and I hit the store for groceries (and a couple of Octonauts figures, since we can’t avoid the toy department). While Walmart offers four different oil change packages, I went “High Mileage” and specifically requested Pennzoil be used.
Walmart High Mileage Oil Change with Pennzoil:
This service includes up to 5 quarts of featured High Mileage or Semi-Synthetic oil, a new oil filter, chassis lubrication (where applicable) and all of the services below under Lube Services. High Mileage oils are recommended for vehicles with more than 75,000 miles. Semi-Synthetic oils that are GM Dexos compliant are also included in this package. (See your owner’s manual for requirements.)
In addition to changing the oil, the Walmart Auto Care Center crew will also Vacuum the Interior, Wash the Exterior Windshield, Check and Fill Transmission, Power Steering, Differential, and Washer Fluids (if applicable), Check Battery Performance, Air Filter, Wiper Blades, Headlights, Signal, Brake & Taillights – and Check and Adjust Tire Pressure.
By the time Little Finley and I were done with our shopping, our car was done and ready to rock the road once more. We had plenty of time to get back to gym to pick up big sister and Mommy at the end of the party.
And we’re ready to do it again in another 3,000 miles…
The Pennzoil brand is legendary when it comes to cars, and they’ve also got a great warranty that can help cover 15 engine parts in addition to being transferrable and free with purchase (click here for details, terms and conditions).
