In order to share this news, I have to go back to when I first reported on  SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom during the 2017 installment of my annual 31 Days of Halloween and what  I said then: “He may not know it, but SpongeBob Squarepants is my nemesis. Actually, if we’re being honest, he’s just one of my nemeses, but for years Mr. Squarepants has been on that shortlist of undesirables, and I can’t pick a singular reason for it. I don’t like his voice… his animation… in fact, I can’t find a single redeeming quality in SpongeBob, and I know I’ve pointed that out before. Still, many of you enjoy his antics, and that’s why I continue to keep tabs on what they’re up to down in Bikini Bottom.” Now, the one thing that did excite me about SpongeBob (aside from a David Hasselhoff appearance in his movie) is that they went stop-motion for a Halloween special, and that special is now coming home on DVD.

SpongeBob and his Bikini Bottom friends star in Nickelodeon’s original spooky stop-motion spectacular, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom, available on DVD September 11. This terrifying tale tells the story of the Flying Dutchman (Brian Doyle-Murray) coming to Bikini Bottom to make sure everyone in town is scared–especially SpongeBob, who seems to be unflappable in his belief that spooky things are actually funny. Inspired by the visual style of classic stop-motion animation TV specials, The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom was brought to life in three dimensions by Los Angeles-based stop-motion studio Screen Novelties. Produced by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and distributed by Paramount Home Media Distribution, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom will be available for the suggested retail price of $10.99.
