This past June, THE BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA headlined the opening of the 2010 Montreal Jazz Festival. Having played the fest before, their energetic stage show had become legendary, and the buzz surrounding their return to the fest was made crystal clear by the turnout. Over 150,000 music fans took to the streets of Montreal, packing several blocks surrounding the stage, all hoping to catch a glimpse of Brian and his rockin’ big band.
Captured on high-def, the entire set was filmed for home viewing and released last month as IT’S GONNA ROCK… ‘CAUSE THAT’S WHAT I DO via Surfdog Records.
Clocking in at over an hour and forty minutes, the set features the band at their best, performing with precision, feeding off the rabid energy of the massive crowd. Like the recent DON’T MESS WITH A BIG BAND release, IT’S GONNA ROCK has a career-spanning setlist that picks some fan favorites from Setzer’s STRAY CATS-era along with hits from BSO’s studio catalogue.

Undoubtedly my favorite Setzer DVD thus far (with the 2005 Christmas release a close second), IT’S GONNA ROCK… has taken it’s place among the best releases of 2010.
