The Hot Wheels Spider-Man Series speeds into the toy aisle…

I’ve always had a thing for licensed die-cast when they’re done well, and the folks at Mattel are usually right there with some cool models based on hot trends. While MATCHBOX gets some on occasion (some BATMAN and DISNEY vehicles they’ve done come to mind), HOT WHEELS are always at the front of the pack. This week, a new assortment started hitting the streets as a Walmart Exclusive – The Hot Wheels Spider-Man Series – done in timing with the release of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.

Hot Wheels Spider-Man #1If you caught the SUPERMAN series that Kroger stores had a year or so ago (we have a few of those – no Kroger in our area), the SPIDER-MAN series is done in the same fashion, though perhaps with a more creative vehicle selection. For hardcore collectors that keep their cars packaged, these feature fantastic artwork – each done to match the vehicle itself, which is based on a specific theme or era. It almost makes me feel bad opening these and tossing the packs, but at the end of the day for us – these are $0.97 cars and trucks that are going to be played with by my daughters.

There’s eight, numbered vehicles in the series – but beware: #8 is already hard to come by, and I missed out on it myself, nabbing the first seven at the local Supercenter this afternoon. A quick scan of eBay, and #8, the “Secret Wars” themed “Evil Twin” is there – all at $15-$30 a piece. Fine for a collector, perhaps, but not for our purposes.

And hey, look at what #1 is – the Street Creeper! If you missed it last month, the Street Creeper recently got a larger-scale overhaul from the folks at Toy State (in association with Mattel), and we showed it off (complete with video) here at Rock Father HQ. Check it out here.

The Hot Wheels Spider-Man Series includes:
  1. Street Creeper (The Origin of Spider-Man)
  2. I Candy (Silver Age) featuring The Green Goblin
  3. Ettorium (Birth of Venom)
  4. Spider Rider (Amazing Spider-Man: Dying Wish)
  5. Hammered Coupe (Civil War Spider-Man)
  6. Fire-Eater (Ultimate Spider-Man) featuring Rhino
  7. Shredster (Superior Spider-Man)
  8. Evil Twin (Secret Wars)
