Universal’s Fast & Furious franchise roared back into theaters this year with THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS, the eighth feature film in the series. While there have been several different toy lines released based on the individual films, aside from the occasional Hot Wheels release, there hasn’t been a really kid-focused collection of toys until now. Mattel’s Fast & Furious collection includes several sub-lines of vehicles and playsets in different scales, one of which is the Stunt Stars assortment – 1:32-scale plastic vehicles, each paired with a small action figure and packed with special “stunt” features inspired by scenes from across the various films in the saga. Kids can now recreate their favorite Fast & Furious scenes, or create completely new adventures in small-scale.
Ahead of the recent in-home release of The Fate of The Furious, Mattel sent over a few Stunt Stars for review: Dom + Ice Charger (The Fate of the Furious), Tej +Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (Furious 7), Hobbs + Navistar MXT (Fast & Furious 6), and a two pack featuring Hobbs + Navistar MXT & Owen Shaw + Flip Car (Fast & Furious 6).
Simple, yet durable, these vehicles feature magnetic action to hold the action figures to the hoods and trunks of each car, and with the push of a button, our heroes can be launched into the air. There’s other features like ziplines and spring-loaded grappling hooks on certain rides, and the 2″ figures fit inside of their vehicles thanks to working doors.
Because these are relatively inexpensive, they’re great for indoor/outdoor adventure, and they really recall the type of play I used to have with my cousins as a kid – racing the plastic Mego Dukes of Hazzard General Lee through all kinds of obstacles from across the landscape.
Fast & Furious Stunt Stars are great for both fans of the film series or just kids or collectors that love cars in general. Available now at retailers nationwide.
