This #RockFathersDay #DadHacks adventure is brought to you by Chuck E. Cheese's. The Rock Father has been friends with Charles for a very, very long time...
Father's Day, or Rock Father's Day™ as it's known around here, is June 19th, and as everyone gears up for the annual round of "What Dad Really Wants...," I can tell you that what I want is very simple: time with my family, and fun. While my perfect Father's Day is a pretty low-key affair in which I like to hang out at home and spend some time in the yard, I'm all for a little detour to one of the kids' favorite places, which just so happens to be one of my favorite places... a place "Where A Kid Can Be A Kid," or where a big kid can still be a kid because he's never really grown up, but he happens to have kids of his own now. It's in that spirit of family fun that my friends at Chuck E. Cheese's are celebrating dads this year, serving-up some exclusive Father's Day offers that everyone can enjoy. Ticket Blaster for Dad? A chance to win a trip to Great Wolf Lodge? Read on, friends...

When you think of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, certain elements tend to stand out more than others, and one of those things is Pizza! Ask any kid to tell you what a Ninja Turtle eats, and it's pretty much guaranteed that they'll only be able to give you one answer. Over the years, there have been many cross-promotional TMNT pizza tie-ins, with a Domino's driver appearing in the 1990 film, a mention of Pizza Hut in the 2014 film, and even frozen pizzas sold on the East Coast by Ellio's that were TMNT-branded. First-released last fall as a tie-in for the hit Nickelodeon TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES series, Wicked Cool Toys' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Oven lets kids made their own, personal, snack-sized pizzas pretty-much from scratch!

The year was 1989, and as the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES celebrated their meteoric rise to the top of the Saturday morning cartoon charts and simultaneous infiltration of the action figure aisle, the battle against The Shredder and The Foot Clan wound up finding a new stage: the breakfast table. Produced by Ralston, who at the time were the kings of cool-looking, yet questionably-tasting cereals based on the pop culture icons of the day, the original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Cereal featured "Crunchy Ninja Nets" (think Chex) and Ninja Marshmallows for "a power-packed crunch!" Like most licensed cereals, it was a limited-time affair, but with the success of Nickelodeon's current animated series and the release of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS into theaters, Mikey, Leo, Raph and Donnie are back in the kitchen in a new cereal, produced in 2016 by General Mills.
As parents, we always want the best for our kids - that's an undeniable fact. There are times, however, when the scale of "good" vs "convenient" can sometimes tip in the wrong direction, and let's face it - we all hit that point. No matter how noble the intentions, nor how "perfect" we might try to be, a trip to the proverbial "dark side" can happen, so when new things enter our daily lives that help assist and accentuate what we're trying to do, we appreciate it - and it's little things, in this case, a juice drink. Sure, thinking of what kind of beverage to serve with a morning snack, a lunch break, or during outdoor play might not seem like a big deal, but when you go out of your way (and spend a premium price) to buy only organic fruits and such for the kids, why muck-up the vibe with some junky juice drink that's probably loaded with stuff like high fructose corn syrup? Capri Sun Organic helps strike the perfect balance between what kids love, and what parents love to give them. It's a certified USDA organic juice drink that also packs one full serving of fruit* in every convenient pouch.
It's not even summer yet, and I'm already thinking of the most glorious season of the year... Fall. As an unabashed fan of all things Pumpkin and Pumpkin Spice (when done well), I have high hopes for one of 2016's newest offerings, Pumpkin Spice Cheerios. Revealed via Bloomberg, it's a wonder that General Mills has waited this long to bring some pumpkin-y goodness to their famous oats since they already offer a ton of Pumpkin flavors throughout their other brands. While there's no release date announced just yet, I'd bet we'll start seeing Pumpkin Spice Cheerios on shelves (and pallet stacks, endcaps and other gloriously massive displays) right around the same time that the General Mills Monsters crawl out of their crypt... usually August/September.
From school lunches to family picnics to team practices, America’s iconic sandwich – the peanut butter and jelly - has played an important role in the lives of many Team USA athletes. It’s why Smucker’s®, a proud sponsor of Team USA, is turning America’s passion for a PB&J into a way to support our Team USA athletes. Beginning today, for every tweet using #PBJ4TeamUSA, Smucker’s will donate $1 to the United States Olympic Committee (up to $200,000).
Ah, the weekend! A time to relax after a hard and honest week's work... to sit back and enjoy some quality time with the family. Or not. I don't know about you, but around here, there really isn't any down time. Family time, yes - but down time is non-existent. My wife is at her office Monday-Friday (and sometimes Saturday); I'm either working from home here in Illinois, or out on some crazy adventure (usually in Los Angeles); The Rock Daughters™ have school and preschool, respectively; and sometimes I have to tend to the band that I manage (in fact, a tour starts later this month, and I will join them on the road for a few dates). So the weekend... a time for even more activities, like ballet and tap. Sometimes there's theatre... or baseball... or gymnastics. My point? There is no end to the running, and it's a coffee-fueled affair (Folgers Ambassador - disclosure and all) - with the weekend being a week-ending wrap-up to my normal morning and mid-day routines. When I do relax, it's a prime example of some #CoffeeAndRock.
They say that Folgers is the best part of wakin' up, and that's true, but it's an undisputed fact that Folgers Coffee is also an important part of the entire day... especially here at Rock Father HQ. As a Folgers Brand Ambassador, I last showed you how Folgers plays into the early morning - the first hour in which my wife leaves for work, and the girls have to get ready and off to school. But what about the middle of the day... the couple of hours in which I have to get the bulk of my work done, and hopefully meet a few deadlines before having to go get the youngest of The Rock Daughters from preschool? Having my own coffee bar ready to rock here at the house not only provides me with that essential fuel for the day, but also saves me two important things: money and time. Hot Coffee? Got it. Iced Coffee? Got it! Did you also know that Folgers Coffee can help your goatee grow longer?* And is there a ZOOTOPIA nod somewhere in this story? Watch the video below to find out!
No one wants to think about, or talk about heart health. I sure don’t, but when the opportunity came along to help spread the word about Meta and their Heart 2 Heart initiative with Michael Strahan, it was actually my dad that groaned - not me. Thing is, we’ve both struggled with personal wellness over the years, primarily with one big one - weight. While we’re fortunately pretty healthy right now (knock on wood!), there’s no reason not to make a change for the better, and that’s where this all comes together.
Breakfast is hands-down my favorite meal of the day, and when it comes to making breakfast for our family, The Rock Daughters have a requirement that pancakes be present. I’ve been on a mission for quite some time to make the “perfect” pancake, and it’s a challenging thing. For awhile, the girls wanted their pancakes on the thin side, and now they like them thicker - finally in what I consider to be the “normal” way. If they’re not just right (keeping in mind that “right” is on a scale that slides much like the mood of these youngsters), they’ll let me know. It could be the size, shape, color, depth - I never know, but with the weekday mornings being as hectic as they are, it’s the weekend when I can work to hone my pancake skills, particularly on Sunday mornings since Saturday as us out the door bright and early for ballet and tap.
Not long ago, my friends at Folgers Coffee (I'm one of their Brand Ambassadors) asked me what I thought of when I thought of the morning here at Rock Father HQ. In an instant, my entire routine flashed through my brain like that moment in the Guy Ritchie film SNATCH - the one where "Cousin Avi" says he's "going to London."
There is definitely a distinct routine that takes place every morning here at Rock Father HQ, and what went through my head looked a little something like this...
Living in Northern Illinois, the weather is often unpredictable, with winter weather a particularly daunting challenge. The seasons have shifted by weeks, and the thermostat swings to and fro with an often schizophrenic level of irregularity. One day the wind chill is -27°, while the next swings upward to nearly 40°. From unbearable risk of frostbite to melting snow and back down below freezing once more, the winter months wreak havoc upon your body, and while I've not spent the winters at sea, I can imagine what it might be like (especially after visiting the shores of Lake Michigan in December), and I do enjoy unleashing the power of Fisherman's Friend lozenges to fight the inevitable sore throats and coughs that come with the winter months.
