Meeting Monsters: The Rock Father, Cookie Monster and Kids… #PBSam

PBS KIDS VIPDuring the course of my career, I’ve had the good fortune to have met, and in some cases, worked with some of my favorite artists and performers. I’ve been able to meet and witness live performances from my top four bands of all-time – FAITH NO MORE, HELMET, PRONG and CLUTCH. I did a music video for FEAR FACTORY… spent a Halloween with SLIPKNOT in Las Vegas… and have crossed paths with more filmmakers and actors than I can count. Over the past few years, something interesting started happening as I switched gears and became more deeply connected to family entertainment… and it all makes an important connection to my own childhood. I’ve started meeting monsters, particularly those known to populate a certain magical street… SESAME STREET.

As a kid growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago during the 1980s, SESAME STREET was a part of my daily viewing for a very long time, airing here on WTTW Channel 11, the local PBS affiliate. The educational content provided by SESAME STREET and other PBS series’ helped shape me, and as a parent, it’s been an important part of the routine for my own children. That’s why I was so honored to officially start working with PBS as a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) back in early 2013.

Last year, I had the privilege to sit down with Rosita and her human neighbor, ‘Mando in Miami, where I finally got the answer to a burning question that has been one for the ages: “Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?”

But this year? As I attended the 2014 PBS Annual Meeting in San Francisco this week, I got to go one-on-one with a monster that I’ve been watching for my entire life… Cookie Monster

Along with his human friend (and fellow Chicagoan) David Rudman, Cookie came to San Francisco to fill us in on SESAME STREET Season 45, which will make it’s debut this September. While I’ll be posting more details on the new season and a Cookie Monster Special in the months ahead, I wanted to share something with all of you today that was really done just for my girls.

After discussing music for a bit (after all, “Cookie Monster Vocals” are a big thing in metal!) Cookie Monster and I recorded a special greeting for Adalyn and Finley, but… we also had to break into song. “C Is For Cookie!”
