General Mills Monster Cereals

When it comes to deliciously-demonic munchies and sinfully-sweet snacks, there’s no better time of year than Fall to get my supernatural groove on. I’m a huge fan of General Mills’ Monster Cereals – so much that I’ve written about them every Halloween for nearly a decade, with at least six posts appearing right here on THE ROCK FATHER Magazine. When Count Chocula®, Boo Berry® and Franken Berry® emerge from their Crypt, it’s cause for celebration – a true throwback to my own childhood growing up in the late 70s/early 80s! The difference is that now I’m enjoying them with a family of my own, and my love of these cereals goes beyond breakfast. They can be used as fun snacks, and sometimes it’s totally acceptable to play with your food… or just the box it came in.

My yearly first-discovery of my Monster friends usually goes something like this: I’m walking toward the seasonal department of my local Target store when I happen upon a towering endcap of General Mills Monster Cereals that emits a heavenly glow* like the inside of the briefcase in PULP FICTION. Slowly, I approach said encap and drop to my knees – my arms raised high and wide – as I worship at the Altar of Awesome in an action of respect and anticipation for the scrumptious delights that I know I will soon enjoy.

This year, Target once again has Exclusive box packaging. Each box contains pieces for a castle – a castle that you must buy all three Monsters to complete. Oh yes, and complete it, I did… I even busted out my officially-licensed-by-General Mills Monster Cereals Hot Wheels to display alongside my new castle. Check out my build in just about a minute:

Whether you enjoy your Monster Cereals for breakfast with milk or just dry – straight out of the box – there’s always a new way to eat them. This Halloween Season, why not try turning some Monster Cereals into a sweet snack?

THE ROCK FATHER presents COUNT CHOCULA’s Decadent Vampire Fright Fuel:

Prep Time: 5 minutes; Cook/Assembly: 10 minutes; Chilling Time: Overnight. Serves 8-10

vampirefood

  • Four Cups of Count Chocula Cereal
  • Two Cups of Milk Chocolate Chips
  • ½ Tablespoon of Vegetable Oil
  • Optional: Two Tablespoons of Creamy Peanut Butter
  • Optional: Halloween Sprinkles (preferably Black & Orange)

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt your chocolate chips for 2-3 minutes, stopping to stir periodically. Don’t overcook, but when the chocolate is smooth and lump-free, add oil and mix well. If you’re choosing to go the Peanut Butter route, this is where you’ll add the PB into the mix as well – when it’s nice and hot!  Add Count Chocula into the bowl and mix until the cereal is completely coated with the mixture.

Line a baking sheet or shape pan with non-stick aluminum foil, then cover with your chocolatey mixture. Want sprinkles? Add those now. Place in the refrigerator and chill overnight. You can either crunch it up and store it in a sealed bowl or bag, or you can cut it into bars. The choice is yours!

*Glowing cereal encap is a complete fabrication from within the mind of THE ROCK FATHER. Lack of a glowing light in no way diminishes the awesome power of the General Mills Monsters.
