Every year, over 36 million kids around the U.S. play organized sports. Kids love playing soccer, baseball, basketball; even swimming is the fourth most popular sporting activity in the United States. Despite some recent controversy, one sport remains at the top of millions of Americans’ list: football.
Last year alone, the number of people ages six and above who participated in tackle football amounted to roughly 5.22 million. Whether it’s a little kid running around aimlessly on the field or a professional in his 10th season, at some point, every player’s goal is to make the NFL Pro Bowl. People love watching their favorite NFL players compete against their other favorite players every year.
Here are all the 2019 Pro Bowl selections
Arizona Cardinals
Pro Bowlers: Patrick Peterson, CB (8)
The Cardinals are currently 3-11 this season, but Peterson has been one of the best defenders in the league for years. He joins Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Barry Sanders as the only NFL players in history to make eight Pro Bowls before they turned 29 years old.
Seattle Seahawks
Pro Bowlers: Michael Dickson, P (1); Bobby Wagner, ILB (5)
The Seahawks typically get a lot more Pro Bowlers, but at least they have a special punter. In fact, Dickson is the first rookie punter to go to the Pro Bowl since Dale Hunter in 1985.
San Francisco 49ers
Pro Bowlers: George Kittle, TE (1); Kyle Juszczyk, FB (3)
This is Kittle’s first selection but has become the team’s breakout offensive star this year. He’ll likely earn many more appearances throughout his career.
Los Angeles Rams
Pro Bowlers: Todd Gurley, RB (3); Jared Goff, QB (2); Cory Littleton, LB (1); Aaron Donald, DT (5)
One of the best teams in the NFL is sending a lot of players to the Pro Bowl — no surprises here.
Buffalo Bills
Pro Bowlers: None
Only three teams have zero players going to the Pro Bowl. Despite Jerry Hughes recording six sacks and three forced fumbles, no Bills player did enough to make the roster.
New England Patriots
Pro Bowlers: Stephon Gilmore, CB (2); Tom Brady, QB (14)
Brady’s 14 Pro Bowl selections ties the NFL record (Peyton Manning, Tony Gonzalez, Bruce Matthews, and Merlin Olsen).
Miami Dolphins
Pro Bowlers: Xavien Howard, CB (1)
For 21 seasons in a row, the Dolphins have sent a defensive player to the Pro Bowl.
New York Jets
Pro Bowlers: Andre Roberts, KR (1); Jason Myers, K (1); Jamal Adams, S (1)
The Jets haven’t had a Pro Bowl player in a few years and Adams, the new playmaker for this tough defense, hopes on making many, many more.
Denver Broncos
Pro Bowlers: Von Miller, LB (7); Phillip Lindsay, RB (1)
The Broncos are only 6-8 on this season, but star LB Miller is still performing as one of the premier pass rushers in the league.
Kansas City Chiefs
Pro Bowlers: Eric Fisher, OT (1); Dee Ford, LB (1); Tyreek Hill, WR (3); Travis Kelce, TE (4); Patrick Mahomes, QB (1); Anthony Sherman, FB (1)
The Chiefs have looked great all season long and have had at least six Pro Bowl players in five of the last seven years.
Los Angeles Chargers
Pro Bowlers: Philip Rivers, QB (8); Mike Pouncey, C (4); Melvin Ingram, DE (2); Melvin Gordon, RB (2), Keenan Allen, WR (2); Derwin James, S (1); Adrian Phillips, ST (1)
The Chargers lead the league with seven Pro Bowl selections.
Oakland Raiders
Pro Bowlers: None
The Raiders came into 2018 with a lot of promise, bringing back coach Jon Gruden and Amari Cooper on the outside. Well, Cooper was traded to Dallas and Gruden hasn’t exactly retained his star status. Tough year for the Raiders.
Cincinnati Bengals
Pro Bowlers: Geno Atkins, DT (7)
If A.J. Green could’ve stayed on the field, he surely would have made it in. Also, Joe Mixon has had a terrific season as Cincinnati’s running back. However, Atkins will be the lone Bengal in this year’s Pro Bowl.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pro Bowlers: Antonio Brown, WR (7); Maurkice Pouncey, C (7); James Conner, RB (1); David DeCastro, OG (4); Alejandro Villanueva, LT (2); Cam Heyward, DE (2)
The Steelers have a lot of fans and a lot of star players. Despite all the issues surrounding Le’Veon Bell, Pitt was able to bounce back and send six players to this year’s Pro Bowl.
Baltimore Ravens
Pro Bowlers: C.J. Mosley, MLB (4); Marshal Yanda, G (7); Eric Weddle, FS (6)
The Ravens have the league’s best defense and Weddle and Mosley are key players in the secondary and up the middle.
Cleveland Browns
Pro Bowlers: Denzel Ward, CB (1); Myles Garrett, DE (1)
Ward was selected as the fourth pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, so he certainly came into the league with a lot of pressure. He has been dominant this season, especially for a rookie, and will showcase his skills in the Pro Bowl. Other Cleveland rookies Nick Chubb and Baker Mayfield have been selected as alternates, as well.
Houston Texans
Pro Bowlers: DeAndre Hopkins, WR (3); J.J. Watt, DE, (5); Jadeveon Clowney, OLB (3); Benardrick McKinney, LB (1)
The three defenders representing Houston have shined all year, but DeAndre Hopkins has transformed into possibly the best WR in the NFL.
Indianapolis Colts
Pro Bowlers: Quenton Nelson, OL (1); Eric Ebron, TE (1)
Andrew Luck has 34 passing touchdowns, second only to Patrick Mahomes with 45. Luck certainly deserves a shot to play in the Pro Bowl, and he’ll likely get in as an alternate later on.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Pro Bowlers: Jalen Ramsey, CB (2)
Last year, Jacksonville’s defense was incredible; sending six players to the Pro Bowl. This year, aside from Ramsey, they have been torn apart by opposing offenses.
Tennessee Titans
Pro Bowlers: Brett Kern, P (2); Jurrell Casey, DL (4); Taylor Lewan, LT (3)
The Titans have played great this season in all aspects of the game; sending a player from offense, defense, and special teams to the Pro Bowl.
Dallas Cowboys
Pro Bowlers: Tyron Smith, LT (6); Zack Martin, G (5); Ezekiel Elliott, RB (2); DeMarcus Lawrence, DE (2); Byron Jones, CB (1)
Although no one would argue about these selections, many football fans and Cowboy fans alike believe Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch should have easily been voted in.
Philadelphia Eagles
Pro Bowlers: Zach Ertz, TE (2); Brandon Brooks, G (2); Fletcher Cox, DT (4)
Last year’s Super Bowl champs have struggled this year, but these players have still done quite well.
Notable snub: Michael Bennet. Approximately 19% of the U.S. population has an average of 1.4 foot injuries each year, but not everyone can battle painful foot injuries and still have a productive NFL season. Three-time Pro Bowler Bennet is closing in on his career-high 10 sacks, even with a nagging foot injury, but has been snubbed of the 2019 Pro Bowl.
New York Giants
Pro Bowlers: Saquon Barkley, RB (1); Aldrick Rosas, K (1); Landon Collins, S (3)
The Giants have underperformed all year long, but rookie RB Barkley has not disappointed all year.
Washington Redskins
Pro Bowlers: Trent Williams, LT (7); Ryan Kerrigan, LB (4)
Washington started off the year great but after a few quarterback injuries, their season fell apart. Still, Kerrigan and Williams have stood out all season long.
Green Bay Packers
Pro Bowlers: Aaron Rodgers, QB (7); Davante Adams, WR (1)
Rodgers is having a bad year compared to his usual efforts, but a bad year for Rodgers is still a great year for almost anyone else.
Minnesota Vikings
Pro Bowlers: Harrison Smith, S (4); Anthony Barr, LB (4); Danielle Hunter, DE (1); Adam Thielen, WR (2)
Thielen had a breakout season last year but really went off this year for Minnesota, brining in 9 touchdowns over the first 15 weeks of the season.
Detroit Lions
Pro Bowlers: Darius Slay, CB (2)
Slay recorded eight picks last year and hasn’t done as well this year, but he’s still the lone Lion in this year’s Pro Bowl.
Chicago Bears
Pro Bowlers: Khalil Mack, OLB (4); Eddie Jackson, S (1); Kyle Fuller, CB (1); Akiem Hicks, DL (1); Tarik Cohen, ST (1)
The Bears defense is becoming what it once was. With Mack at the helm, no one wants to play that defense.
Carolina Panthers
Pro Bowlers: Trai Turner, OG (4); Luke Kuechly, MLB (6)
The Panthers are another team that came into this season with high expectations, but struggled in recent weeks. Second-year RB Christian McCaffrey, who has 1,747 yards from scrimmage, could get into the Pro Bowl as an alternative, too.
Atlanta Falcons
Pro Bowlers: Julio Jones, WR (6); Alex Mack, C (6)
Jones leads the NFL with 1,511 receiving yards and Mack has helped protect Matt Ryan long enough to deliver the ball to his star wideout.
Tamba Bay Buccaneers
Pro Bowlers: None
Jason Pierre-Paul has 11.5 sacks and Mike Evans has 1,328 receiving yards but neither were voted in.
New Orleans Saints
Pro Bowlers: Drew Brees, QB (12); Cameron Jordan, DE (4); Max Unger, C (3); Michael Thomas, WR (2); Terron Armstead, LT (1)
Drew Brees will be 40 years old by the time the Pro Bowl is played. 40 years old. And he’s still playing great and leading his team to the playoffs as one of this year’s Super Bowl favorites.
The 2019 NFL Pro Bowl will take place on January 27, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
