Review: SCI-FI LULLABY from Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star

Last November, the folks at Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star blasted into outer space with a collection of songs inspired by the worlds of Science Fiction and Fantasy. SCI-FI LULLABY (available now on iTunes) is a 15-track set of famous themes re-worked for the infant crowd, perfect for introducing your favorite fandom to the smallest member of your family.

From the album description:Take a lightsaber to Mary Had A Little Lamb, a phaser to Rock-a-bye Baby and have Little Bo Peep phone home! Instead put your future Jedi to bed with a soothing version of The Imperial March, fall asleep aboard your Enterprise to Star Trek’s Main Title, and calm your tiny Replicant with the Love Theme from Blade Runner. Cylons, Storm Troopers, Apophis, and even the wrath of Khan are defenseless to the disarming sounds of Sci Fi Lullaby.

SCI-FI LULLABYThe work of JOHN WILLIAMS plays heavily into SCI-FI LULLABY, and while his original compositions are magical on their own, there’s something other-worldly about hearing his iconic themes stripped to their base melodies, and performed a lullabies. I can’t help but wonder if playing The Imperial March (from THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK) in my next daughter’s nursery would help shape the child into following a path of evil. For balance, there is always Hedwig’s Theme from HARRY POTTER (which my wife adores), so while Daddy might lean toward the Dark Side, Mommy will be pulling things back to the light. Throw in the famous “five note” CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND piece, followed by E.T.’s Alive! from E.T., and I want to hop on a red BMX like I did as a kid and pretend to fly.

For those who prefer to rep’ the Federation as opposed to the Rebels, JERRY GOLDSMITH’s theme from STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE is here, and if you’d rather stay earthbound – while breaking the law and the space-time continuum at the same time, you can always speed the DeLorean up to 88mph for a really cool version of ALAN SILVESTRI’s unmistakable BACK TO THE FUTURE Overture.

As a kid that was born in the 1970’s and grew up in the 80’s, a lot of these songs hold a really special place in my heart, and since I’ve already introduced them to my 2½-year-old, I’m eager to start even earlier when the next one arrives this summer.
