For over a year, I’ve been singing the praises of Contigo and their crazy-good line of travel mugs and water bottles. As an on-the-go Dad with two little girls, there’s a pretty good chance that we’re rockin’ some Contigo products whenever we’re out and about. I’m a big coffee guy (I tend to mention that), and one of my personal favorites has been the AUTOSEAL West Loop (yes, named after a geographic region of Chicago) Stainless Travel Mug. It’s always been the best spill-proof mug out there, but how can you improve on perfection? Well, the best got better, and Contigo just proved that. The secret is in the lid.
Contigo sent me an assortment of new mugs to refresh my collection, along with some replacement lids for my old ones. Now, I was going to show you a comparison between the new lid and the old one, but the old one got tossed as soon as the new one arrived. While the AUTOSEAL technology allowed the lid to seal in-between sips for that spill-proof action, the one thing that could cause a hiccup in that was a user mistake – you squeeze the trigger by accident and get a little splash. Unlikely, but possible. The solution? Now the lids have a lock to prevent sloppy fingers.

The other issue that some had with the mugs was cleaning. While I’d already purchased a set of Contigo’s proprietary cleaning brushes, user feedback was that cleaning the mechanism should be easier, and now it is – they made it “Easy Clean.” The mug itself still keeps hot stuff hot for up to five hours and cold drinks cold for up to 12 hours (I’ve left these in the hot car and still had ice in them after several hours!)…
Contigo was already the #1 best-selling line of travel mugs in the United States, but being on top has not stopped innovation.
